Northern Lights

I have an app called AuroraWatch uk, which is constantly updated. I read a feed on Facebook a couple of days ago that mentioned a major solar flare happening and the possibility of really high intensity AB across the UK. Some of the images I’ve seen are unbelievable with colours blood red compared to the pinks and greens more often seen, such as the one I posted here earlier of my daughter. The app is pretty good. There is also this who post on twitter as well. Viewing Northern Lights in the UK.
But, as you’ve experienced, I was up late last night and could see nothing but cloud and rain!

I’d been looking at Aurorawatch and Aurorasaurus.

Your photo looks amazing. Could you see it with the naked eye when you took that?

@Committee, it would be great to understand why this topic was unlisted please. Thanks.

Because there were already several threads, as a search would have revealed.

Nothing is added to the GADC experience by having a new thread on the same subject every time someone thinks to post without first searching.

In our experience, every time there is a significant possibility of seeing the northern lights, at least one new thread is started and has to be merged with previous threads.

Adding to existing relevant threads prevents this, and enables someone, who does search on the subject, to find all the info and posts relating to that subject in one place, rather than scattered over many short threads.

All amazing pics shame the heavens were fully clouded over here

Thanks. It’s just helpful to have a very brief explanation whenever a post/thread is moderated in some way.

Anyway, looks like solar activity has quietened down quite a bit this weekend. Hopefully, there will be further opportunities for us southerners to see the aurora before the current solar cycle dies down too much.

There was a bit of colour to be seen with the naked eye but the phone picked up the real magic. It took me by surprise. No colour editing at all!
