Hi @markhudson welcome
Welcome Mark,
Use to live in Tamworth - Lakeside - there are quite a few pilots from Tamworth and there is a Tamworth drone page on Facebook too - its not very active at all but between Grey Arrows and the FB page I am sure you will make great friends in the area.
I currently reside near Ashby but have flown a few places in and around Tamworth
Just a heads up that Kingsbury Water Park / Pooley Park etc are all no take of from Warwickshire County Council land but you can be smart on that and take of from non Warwickshire land ( public land ) and fly - yes I know Tamworth is in Staffordshire - no idea why Pooley falls under this as I am sure its in Saff’s but hey ho councils for you !
hello le60lad, thank you for your message, i seen that some people have flown of public land up towards Kingsbury village, to be honest lots of people walking around these places so for me I think its best not to fly there’s lots of other places around which i think are more quieter with less public.
hi Richie, thank you, would be great to catch up some time
There is a lot of places to fly around for sure - Robey’s Lane on just off the B5000 heading towards Polesworth is quite good - nice big field with a tree in it for you to fly round - just watch out for the tree’s along the side of the road - ended up parking my DJI Mini in one for the night haha - but its great open space no one to bug you and you have a great POI to fly round and good sun sets too. That was my go to place when I was getting my confidence up.
@LE60LAD Tamworth Parks are managed by its own council Pete and this is an extract from their response to the GADC FOI request:
‘Tamworth Borough Council do not have any byelaws or policies relating to
the recreational use of drones from its land. However, because a policy or
byelaw does not exist on this matter, this does not equate to the council
providing authorisation to launch or land a drone from its land’.
Ignore it, everybody I know does!
hi thank you, just need to get some fly time in and learn a bit more
Colin thats the parks as in like the play area sort of ones - the water park along with Pooley have there own rules as stated here -
Kingsbury Water Park – Country parks and greenways.
They do state they don’t allow for flights “in” their parks but as we all know - over is a different story - may also not be a bylaw but when a ranger challenges you they are going off what is stated on their site and I am not going to try and educate them on that one.
I have not flown at Pooley but I do mountain bike there and I have had staff ask me if I have spotted the pilot flying round the gold tower there ( I don’t get involved ) and I have seen them have a go at a pilot that was on the canal path too.
@LE60LAD It does seem odd that the Park is covered by the Warwickshire Council and I agree with you Pete in that the majority of Kingsbury Water Parks are in North Warwickshire (interestingly Pooley isn’t?), whose council also does not have any Byelaws with regard to drones.
If we followed all the public accessible Park Policy on drones, we wouldn’t get to fly anywhere! If it’s fenced off, then I avoid, but if it’s open to the public then I’d, in a respectfull manner, take my chances. Worst they could do is ask you to move on.
At a glance they allow:
Bird watching, camping-and-caravanning, Kids clubs, Cycling, Dogs, Filming, Fishing, Geocaching, Horse riding, Jet bikes, Model boats,
Orienteering and Sailing so why the hell not drones!
Colin I don’t get these parks sometimes - they complain about being under utlized ( Pooley closed there cafe a while back as it was not being used - it is due to re-open this weekend ) and they cry about liability and privacy around drones - mmm the mountain bikers have go-pro’s on them and are just as easy to inflict pain on people if they crash into them. Boggles the mind.
Right on Pete. More likely to get bitten by a dog than a drone!
Welcome to GADC we’re all a friendly bunch. Not been here too long myself but I love talking to the guys and gals in here as they know what they’re talking about
