Pembrey Airport South wales

Sorry if in wrong topic, but where I live there are some cracking areas for flying drones and taking videos or photos but it’s really close to Pembrey Airport. Tried searching about nfz and restricted areas but nothing coming up, can anybody help in finding out more, is there an app which can help with nfz. From what I understand, the laws were all updated on 13th March.

The app is called NATS. See screen shot.
Download it and it’ll give you all the info you need. Including prisons, schools, power lines and many other ground hazards. BUT don’t forget to turn OFF the settings for UPPER AIRSPACE, or you’ll be in a constant no fly zone cos it’ll think you want to fly up at 37,000 feet. !!!

@Brian how does nats compare to dji geo zones?
Just been reading up on nats and gets mixed feedback

Been a newbie to drones myself would be intresting to gather other’s thought on what they think is best

Thanks for any help given

What you have to keep in mind is that DJI Geo Zones don’t necessarily implement UK air space and legislation, and nor do they try to.
DJI are having to address the issues in every country in the world, and their geo zones are only designed to provide minimum protection for airports, and some other sensitive locations.

We have to abide by the UK legislation, and that is better represented by NATS.

Although - saying that and not having looked at the app in a while - it seems the current version (Android, at least) seems to be a bit of a cock-up!
There’s an FRZ option that does nothing … and all the FRZs are only visible when Airspace is selected. (Turn off Class D to more easily see them.)

Thanks @OzoneVibe

Clears that up.
Sorry if i seem to ask stupid things but i find it helps more asking you lot as you have way more experience in these matters and is much appreciated :+1:

Not at all. There are so many versions of what can appear to be the same information when you are new to things.

I consider the NATs app to be the more accurate and official version for flying in UK airspace, and you can report your flight so that others with the app are aware you are there. It will also show temporary NFZs for example, when there’s an air display planned or low flying practice. Even power lines, gas venting outlets, (apparently there are some near me so they advise caution) There are a number of apps all vying for a slice of a lucrative market. I’m sorry if I’m not a big fan of ‘dronesafe’ it’s good but just needs a bit more development to be on a par with NATs.

I’ll down load it and give it a try, with all of the changes we need as much help as possible to stay legal.

Make sure you go through the settings (and advanced settings … that aren’t really all that advanced) to ensure you’re displaying what you need.

Just looked at the NATS and the only concern is it’s wanting to access my phone’s media/files etc
Why if all we/i want to do is check it’s safe to fly ??

Or am i just been thick again :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Android? I just uninstalled and reinstalled … wasn’t asked.

yeah Samsung S9 @OzoneVibe

Only storage … not unusual for an app that has to store your login details. But no media file access.

You could always turn it off? May still work … perhaps after login is stored.
