Just went to charge my Mavic 2 Pro batteries in my Tineer 5 in 1 charger.
all 3 Batteries were on charge, walked into my kitchen, heard a loud crack.
Could not work out where it had come from at first?.
Mavic batteries were charging ,then realised that the controller was’nt .
turned it of and had it to pieces.
Two of the Capacitors at the rear of the USB sockets had ferking exploded!, literally !.
Thought i better warn other peeps who have these.
They are 10 volt 470pF ,wondering should i repair?, or throw it?
Should still be ok - honestly, get a cup of tea and start a chat session up with support - they actually do have to replace it - the 1 year guarantee is meaningless - in reality you have far longer than that. They know this.
I’m really sorry this has happened to you but also glad it wasn’t worse.
The problem with these cheap chargers sold on Amazon and eBay are the quality of components used. The Samwei capacitors are very cheap and poor quality electrolytic capacitors made in China. Their limited lifespan was probably because they were under rated for the job, irrespective of the claimed specification on the side of the can. They probably prematurely dried out, bulged, and then went bang.
I’ve seen similar failures in a third party Anafi three port charger. Unfortunately this also led to severe damage to the battery in the centre battery slot.
Here’s an example of the Anabee Anafi Charger failure. In this case an electrolytic capacitor got so hot it melted the case and the case of the battery that was in the end slot. The capacitor unsoldered itself before exploding. The Anafi 3port charger is fed from an external power supply where as I believe the Tineer unit has it built in. In this case the failure could be fatal as I believe some units have shipped without an earth connected to the metal case.
RS Components RS-Pro range have a good reputation, I think these are rebranded from one of the three named above or another quality Japanese manufacturer. I would also suggest going for something with a higher working voltage if you can get them to fit in the same spot just for more headroom.
Interestingly you’re not alone with this problem. I’ve just read an Amazon review where another customer experienced the same failure.
I can only echo what you say about Amazon, they replaced a 3 year old kindle for me a couple of years ago, as long as you are nice and don’t lose it with them they try anything to resolve issues.
I should add, that after my first one blew up, I ordered a NEW second charger, prior to my returns conversation with Amazon.
You are not instilling me with desire to want to re-new my “Prime” membership Amazon.
Come On !.
