I eventually bailed at 1 a.m. in the morning when I ripped off a motor wire! Probably also sub-standard soldering - by me sadly!
Yeah, it was a really noticeable difference - felt way more predictable in flight.
To be fair to Betaflight, Iād made very little effort to improve the tune, so it could just be the fact that the Quicksilver defaults are inherently waaaaay better suited to 65mm. But thereās no arguing with the fact that with equally minimal time invested on both firmwares, Quicksilver flew miles better.
One thing I hadnāt expected was that my flight times seemed shorter on Quicksilver, and Iām interested in why that might be - ideally Iād like the flight times I got with BF and the stability/feel I got with QS!
Probably flies better as a tighter tune and working harder. You try any 65mm profiles on betaflight?
Must admit the mob6 eco gets 2 mins and the analogue meteors get 4! The mob6 feels more tuned in. Could be the tune or could be the power hungry and hot hot hot hdzero
I didnāt try any betaflight presets and I probably should do that next - see if I can find a compromise. But the Quicksilver flight-feel is going to take some beating.
My home-brew 65mm with the Eco setup weighs in about the same as the Mob 6 Eco (a tiny bit under 23g - Iām using the lighter meteor65 frame but heavier 0802 25,000kv motors) and I think I was getting roughly 3.5 minutes on Betaflight 4.4 flying the RaceGOW tracks. I felt like I got about a minute less on Quicksilver.
Iād got my fingers crossed for another IGOW this summer, but it seems to have gone really quiet on Skittlesā channel, so it doesnāt seem very likely at the mo.
Heās run off with all the prizes⦠lol (no probably not, but lord knows whatās going on annoyed me bigtime!)
I am planning with a friend to do the RaceGow1 tracks, one a month just a little competition soon, so will keep you know. He won the last track (I got 5 - 1 on RG2), so he wants to start over, lol! Maybe a month for each track or something?!
This is a great idea! And for the folks that put time into making the RaceGOW 1 content, nice for them to know that people are still using and enjoying it.
Ooh looks like weāll finally get the results from the 2nd half of the season, from the 6th July 12:00 PST and each Saturday after. At last!
Sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere! It feels like an IGOW is pretty unlikely this year, so maybe this could be worth a look insteadā¦
I won 10 dollars on the last one. Bring it on
Did you get your ten dollars in the end?
Yeah he paid up, transfered by paypal! All good
Hi guys, 2 infoās I do not seem to find
- what min space do you need to run all the tracks properly
- I only have Walksnail gear - should I look at analog transmitter + drone? I have a Meteor 75 Pro WS but flight time when doing anything but gentle hovering is around 2mn with the 550mAh and also seems a lot less nimble when looking at some vids.
Thank you!
Space wise seems to suit the US basements more than the smaller houses we seem to have in the UK.
2 mins flight time? Luxury. Haha. My HDZ quad does a bit less than that, the analogue a bit more.
Tbh doesnāt matter what you use itās all a bit of fun and improves your flyingā¦I even submitted 3 laps by the avata once.
So the space thing is getting a bit easierā¦
RaceGOW 2 required a 6ā x 6ā area - for me, this was really tricky without totally re-arranging my house (which the other person who lives in it would probably object to!)
RaceGOW 3 only requires 6ā x 4ā. Maybe FPVSkittles got wind of our basement envy?! But this should definitely help a bit.
You typically need an additional 1ā minimum around the perimeter of the course (it depends on the specific course design - in some cases 1ā might not strictly be necessary, but generally it is soooooo much easier if you have more run-off space!)
Re your 75mm Walksnail question, thereās kind of two sides to this: frame size and video system.
I flew a 75mm for IGOW4 (and will do again in 2025) but I find 65mm just so much easier on the super-tight RaceGOW courses. 75mm is do-able, but smaller is just better - unless you want to fly it with an Avata like @GunjaFPV of course!
As far as Walksnail goes, that depends on your aspirations and skill level! I have limited time and even less talent, so Iām never going to be anywhere near the top of the leaderboard - for me RaceGOW is about being motivated to find time to fly regularly and improve my skills.
So, if you happen to have a similar perspective then a Walksnail setup would be fine - you just need enough good quality square-cell batteries to be able to fly a decent number of packs back-to-back., And maybe a 6-port charger (e.g. the ViFly Whoopstor) to re-charge as you fly. Itās all about stick time in the end.
If you actually want to be competitive then yes, youād need to go HDZero or Analogue (although there is an HD-specific class which is partly aimed at the Walksnail 1s board I think). But the level of competition is bonkers-high, so Iād probably only think about investing in an entire new video system if I felt like my skill-level justified it!
TLDR, just buy a few extra batteries and give it a go!
Thanks a lot for the details - I do not have the room in the house but now that the motorcycle is gone I am looking if I can get it done in the garage. What about height - ceiling is just about 6ā high? The 75 āproā I have is more like a 80 - so heavy - more at home in my backyard on a windless day than in the house tbh. Iāll investigate options between now and the winter
Well he constantly āfeaturedā my videos where my sofas were either against the wall, or removed to my front landing!!!
Yeah I have 20-30 1S lipos, constantly charge (and start with a decent number charged). Or get two whoopStors (might invest in another newer one before next season, as they awesome!)
I think analogue the lightest and fastest, though using a HDZero(rangeTM) mob6 now, and itās not bad, although HOT HOT HOT and low battery life!
You need to slow down and fly better if you worried of hitting the ceiling. Walls you will hit over and over, ceiling⦠improve!
More worried about the course/race line height tbh - I have some overhead storage in the garage hence low ceiling where I would have the course set.
For RaceGOW 3 I believe the max height is three āblocksā high - so basically 6ā, assuming 24" gates. I think this was maybe unofficially the case with RaxeGOW 2 as well.
From memory, I donāt recall any of the courses requiring you to fly over a triple stack gate so provided your garage has got clearance to 6ā Iād have thought you should be ok.
