Yep I’ve noticed that with passenger aircraft too. 
Try living near RAF Odiham if you want to witness low flying! Mind you couple of weeks ago at Studland one flew VERY low along the beach edge, can’t say how low but it wasn’t much over treetop height, very cool looking crewman standing in the side door enjoying the view!
