Requesting an exemption to fly within in a NFZ around a de-commissioned nuclear power station

Hi Chris
I would send an email to the original address you applied through, quoting any BAL - reference No’s etc you must have been sent on confirmation of submission.
Somebody should be able to pick it up as I don’t think it is that big a team who look after it.

If you do have problems filling out parts of the form, get in touch as I may be able to help you out.
I am assuming that because I “ticked all the correct boxes” they sent me a copy of my application so I could see every answer I put down to every question.
Apart from our own personal details, the GPS coordinates you have to enter and location address where you wish to fly from, our applications should be pretty much the same.

Hi John,
By chance I found a form on the CAA website as is as described by matey on the phone call. Filled it in on Friday and immediately received an automatic reply with confirmation that they have received it and a PDF copy. Still living in hope!
Best wishes,
Chris

Can you post a link to the form so others might be able to find it? :+1:

Here is the latest link I used to fill in a form:
Not 100% sure it is the correct one, but will keep you posted.

Hi Chris
I used my exemption for the first time yesterday afternoon.
Called the control room as requested, told the operator what I Intended doing and for how long, he only took my name and that was it.

Happy day’s👍

Please keep me posted how you get on (in about a months time).

Regards John

It is, that’s the same link I received from the arops@caa.co.uk mailbox.

Hi John,
Great news for you, I bet it felt good flying in a NFZ when you have permission. I bought a new book this week, ‘Rails to the Forest’. Excellent photographs. I was a 16yr old deckhand on a small oil tanker and out on the Severn off Sharpness the night the railway bridge was struck by two oil tankers in fog and witnessed the huge explosion with the river ablaze. Sadly 5 men killed. 25th October 1960, a night never forgotten.

Photos/Video … or it didn’t happen. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hi Chris
Yes it did feel a bit strange, bit like when I could drink legally in a pub on my 18th birthday.

Yes it was very sad, I walked the canal towpath towards Sharpness from Gloucester a few years ago and read all about it at what is left of the old swing bridge.

I applied to fly at Lydney harbour this morning, fingers crossed🤞
