# Resources for Beginners discussion thread

I know this is getting into the realms of FPV quads, but if you’re going to have RTF (Ready To Fly), should you include its partner, BNF (Bind ‘N’ Fly)? And then we’re on the slippery slope of VTXs, FCs, ESCs and all the other FPV paraphernalia, which, I agree, should probably be left alone or dealt with separately.
Additionally, the RTF that probably gets asked about the most is the “Reason To Fly” competition title. 😄

That would be useful, there is FAFEC and Cal Comp too.
Might as well introduce the idea of friendly competitions to the rest of the list!

Personally, when folk say RTF, I immediately think of the competition.

It’s a good call. I would air (no pun intended) on the side of separate threads:
- Resources for beginner camera drone pilots
- Resources for beginner FPV drone pilots

I try to recommend Ian’s videos as they are well-produced, informative and usually accurate 🙂 Obviously they are tailored toward the British market which is a bonus. As is the fact that he is a member here.
I have also previously recommended [the 15 Drone Training Exercises](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixYnzcZZu9g) that Ade mentions - maybe Ian could do a less frenetic / Americanized version for us 🕶

As I said in the post where I linked to that video. Someone here should do one and put it on the GADC YouTube channel. Perhaps Ian would be prepared to make the content for the GADC channel rather than his own? Or it can go on both!
The channel is screaming for that sort of content and it will get tons of hits as tutorials always do.
GADC channel could pump out tons of useful stuff like that. Some people learn better from videos, other from reading.
Plenty of decent YouTubers on here such as yourself and Colin also, different people could do different stuff.

I’m not so sure?
Windy season is upon us and clink will soon be filling the forum with air data and screenshots of where he thinks his toys are. People might wonder what it’s all about, and indeed why on earth you’d want to disable all the safety features on your drone and fly it into 100mph winds 🤣

It’s a starter for 10, but my only issue with this is it’s DJI centric and I don’t think the club should be seen to be promoting any particular brands over another.
It will do for now as most beginners probably are going to buy a DJI or they’ve purchased some cheap thing from Amazon.
Perhaps at the next big meet, certain tutorial videos can be recorded and for one such as drone manoeuvres a different member can introduce each of the 15 moves?

I have updated the resource to include both videos, as I believe together, they cover everything needed for a new pilot, from setting up the drone, charging, activating, first flight and becoming comfortable with the most important maneuvers.
