- Scarborough Lighthouse
This is a lighthouse. It’s black and white and was destroyed by the German bombardment of Scarborough in 1914 (see below). Rebuilt a few years later and now has a swimming lady (Diving Belle). It was quite windy and there were a lot of seagulls trying to dive-bomb my Mini4 so its only a low shot from about 4m up.

As this challenge closes on Solstice Eve, I couldn’t think of a less original, ahem, more iconic subject than this, beating the temporary FRZ by a few hours.

Salmesbury Hall
16/12/2025. 11:10
Mini 4 Pro
Salmesbury Hall is a a grade 1 listed Manor House, built in 1325 by Gilbert de Southworth. It has through the years suffered the indignities of being a Public House & a girls boarding school and was almost demolished in 1924 for its timber. The house in its present state is managed by the Salmesbury Hall Trust, bought by public subscription in 1925. It is open to the public. I flew from a little “road” from in amongst the trees, on the other side of the A677 so as not to distract drivers on this busy road.
It is worth noting this is sited very close to British aerospace where the Euro fighter is built, so care was taken to keep as much distance as possible from BAE and not include any of their buildings in my shots.
Time to vote for your favourites. The poll will close at 21:00 on Monday 22nd of December. You may vote for up to five images.
A varied (and surprisingly colourful) selection of images for our Black and White Challenge! Thank you all for contributing and congratulations to our three winners.
In third place is Simon Garland Lo - @SGL_Simon with a semi-abstract short of the coastline of the Wirral.
You can see a similar shot in colour here.
Second place was grabbed by Jennifer Mason - @TheLittleRedJen - with a shot of Stonehenge on a crisp winter’s day taken shortly before the area became a temporary no-fly zone for the druid / new age invasion for the solstice.
And this round’s winner is a recent subscriber to Grey Arrows Drone Club and (we believe) a first-time entrant to the RTF Challenge - @FrameTheSky - with a picture of the mist over the Gloucestershire countryside. . As with the other winners it will repay enlarging the pictures to the maximum attainable on your device to enjoy the textures and the details in them.
Congratulations to our winning three, well done to all who entered (even @macspite!) and please find time over the Christmas holiday to create something wonderful for the current RTF - Steps and Stairs.
Great shots all round, congrats to the top 3 ![]()
I’m well chuffed. Thank you everyone! Love the first and second place images, rightfully deserved.
Well done all. Some great shots/ideas here.
