RTF Photo Competition - September 28th to October 11th - Isolation - Winners Announced

The subject chosen for this round of the Reason To Fly Photo Competition is Isolation

You have two weeks to create an image to illustrate the above subject. Before you do why not give the rules a little read just to make sure there will be no tears before bedtime …

RULES

The requirement is to submit a single still image created using a drone to illustrate the subject of the competition. This round will run from 00:01 Sunday 28th September until 23:00 Saturday October 11th; the subject is Isolation

The image must be captured while the competition is open. It is a Reason To Fly Challenge so please show that the image is created by a flying camera!

Editing is confined to colour and exposure adjustments and crop only. There must be no removal or pasting of an object. Stacked images, HDR images and non-spherical panoramas are considered single images for the purposes of this competition.

Images must be posted with the following information as a minimum:

In Capitals as the first line of your post:

THIS IS MY ENTRY

If this is not done at the time of posting the picture will be ignored. Should it be necessary to change your picture then delete the previous picture and add “This is my entry” - as above - as the first line of your new post. If in any doubt contact the Challenges Committee
(@Challenges_Committee)

Further Information is required

  • Location
  • Time and date
  • Aircraft/camera used
  • Feel free to add any further information that you think will be of interest

Voting

The members of GADC will judge images. They may vote for any number of pictures through an anonymous poll open for two days after the closing date for competition entries.

Voting in the poll is open to all GADC members, whether they have entered the competition or not.

The Challenge Committee may request the original media in case of a dispute.

Schedule

The competition subject will be announced every second Saturday around 22:30. The subject will be chosen by a poll of GADC members selecting from three that have been picked at random from the subject list. You may make additions to the list at any time.

The competition will run from Sunday 00.01 to Saturday 23.00 fourteen days later. Voting by poll will be open for a further two days until Monday 22:00

The winner (and second and third-placed competitors if there are sufficient entries) will be announced shortly after the vote is closed

Have Fun! Be Safe!

All flights are the sole responsibility of the individual conducting them. Each competitor must abide by the drone code and adhere to the limitations and restrictions imposed upon them by aviation law, the aircraft being used and the qualifications they hold. There is no added text to catch you out to see whether you have read this far. If a flight is undertaken in a restricted zone proof of permission having been granted is required.

I’ll get this off and running, an artistic interpretation of isolation. Being 740 metres above sea level the trees are isolated by the clouds.

You stole my idea :rofl::+1:

Mind you I’ve flown that place a million times !

First time for me. I’m off to the Middle East on Saturday, so wanted to get this one done…

The Old Coastguard Lookout, Hurlestone Point, Somerset

DJI Air 3S

Though this isolated spot conjures images of excise men watching for smugglers bringing French brandy ashore, the lookout itself only dates from the beginning of the last century. It was staffed until the early 1980s.

I’m reposting this after re-stitching the wonky horizon in my original entry. I’ve decided to keep the rectangular format rather than the square crop too; I ummed and ahhed, but think this one feels better balanced.

I thought it looked very familiar
The sunlit side seems brighter and clearer too.
Nice photo.

I think a more square crop would lessen the isolation , it needs the sea

  • DJI Air 3S
  • This windmill can only be accessed either by parking in the village of Halvergate and walking 3.5miles to get to it. There is no direct access by road (which I discovered when Google Maps kept trying to route me through farmers’ fields!)

  • West Harrow Allotments Small Site
  • 5/10/2025 16:19
  • DJI Mini 3

The isolation here (and hard to find in NW London) is single point of access, as the site is surrounded by 2 Metropolitan Line tracks and housing, with a single entrance at the bottom right. The reason it is a small site, is there is large site nearby.

This is a panorama and is I believe allowed by the rules. I hope you enjoy something a little different.

Taken adjacent to Darnford Moors Golf Club, Darnford Lane Lichfield on 7th September at 1.20pm with my mavic 4 pro. I have done a crop and “auto” correction in photoshop.
The subject is not a water feature of the golf course, but an isolated part of the Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration, namely Darnford Moors Ecology Park Darnford Moors Ecology Park - Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust
This canal will be connected to the Coventry Canal at Huddlesford Junction some 300 metres off the top of the picture.

I know that place ( useless info ) :joy: but have flown there & the big mansion just across the field from there & Ailesbury column in the forest !

Haha! Yes that’s right. I noticed there is a huge amount of scaffolding on the building at the moment. That whole area is very picturesque. Savernake is a great wood to get lost in, especially now as the colours on the trees are changing.

Ah scaffolding still there is it - was being renovated over a year & half ago Tottenham House :+1:
