At the moment all you need to fly a sub 250gm drone is an Operator ID
You won’t need one until 2028, if the proposed CAA changes are given the green light. If bring the keyword, at the moment.
That’s correct, I was responding to the comment about the forthcoming proposed legislation changes, if they are implemented, which may come into force from Jan 2028, that it won’t be the end of sub 250gm drones.
I thought I was having my first bad encounter a few weeks ago while flying over a local reservoir
Dog walker came striding up to me and in a loud voice shouted “is that a fukin drone” !!!
Here we go I thought as I replied “yes”
“cool as fuck arent they, where is it, can I see the screen” ?
We had a chat and off he went with his very friendly dogs

Thanks for your message but i’m located in Exeter in Devon but if any one else is reading this nearer to Me then please get Intouch!
Yes I know, but that’s not the answer to the question I asked: where do I get a “RemoteID” from?
‘I have a little list
and they never will be missed’…
So we don’t take this thread off topic. Have a look here:
Most of the DJI drones have remote ID built in already. All remote ID does is broadcast the drones location and the pilots location along with other flight data. So you don’t need to “get a remote ID from anywhere” unless you are self building or have a drone that doesn’t have remote ID built in then you need to buy a module to wire into your build that will broadcast the same information mentioned above.
You don’t get an RID, it is hardware that transmits the location of your RC. Some drones have it built in already and some, like self builds for example would need a third party device to be added to the drone.
If you already have a drone it will not require RID until 2028.
Take a look at this thread for a more thorough explanation:
I think I’ve met the same bloke.![]()
Well - having reached the age I am - 84 - possibly reveals my attitude to all of it - with over 500 drone hours and in excess of 600 hours PPL - having PfCO then OA - now given the lot up and just do what I want to do and let others carp about it all ! I live in a remote part of the UK and concentrate mostly on agricultural related stuff with multispectral imaging - but still get frustrated with the plethora of totally unenforceable regulations - (There are less regulations to get into a real aeroplane and fly it from the Uk and across Europe than there are to fly a drone around a local patch). I would not mind if the regs were enforceable - but they’re not - and it’s just a money making exercise for flight schools and the CAA - rant over !
I would not know, at this current time. ![]()
I’ve watched a few YouTube videos to get some tips on flying. I recall seeing one video where the pilot hides himself away to avoid any interaction with the public
. He takes off from hedges (maybe a bit extreme
) and generally makes it less obvious that it’s him flying. Don’t give up; maybe have some mini meets, as others are less likely to challenge a “club”
.
Your 100 percent correct. Enforcement only occurs in the most extreme of circumstance and having liaised with my local ATC recently they cant even see the drone on radar.
Is it? Really? I only found out about auditors from drone forums. I’ve never seen them or their actions discussed anywhere else. I’ve never encountered anyone from outside the drone community who is aware of them or their antics.
But maybe that’s just me.
Their likes, clicks and comments on videos would suggest otherwise ![]()
Not sure what you think that means. I have never had a conversation with anyone outside this community about auditors. Ever. Even people who know that I fly drones.
Oh personally?
Most people I’ve spoken to when you mention the company who makes drones, they have pretty all much heard of DJ A****s
I’ve never encountered anyone any other way than personally…
Is this an encounter ?
