I’ve often wondered whether the pros (big screen) of using a tablet (eg 11 inch iPad) as your controller display outweigh the cons (eg weight, packability/portability, possibly dimmer screen).
I’m particularly thinking about its use on a DJI RC-N3 controller.
I use an 11” iPad with nc2 & 3, with Neo & mini 2 se, the greater visibility far outweighs the extra weight. What need to be aware of is the difference in balance especially whet putting down on a surface, I’ve had mine fall from the top of a low wall when I put it down without thinking. And you’ll need an extender to fit it to the controller plus longer connection lead.
I transport the drones in a lowepro camera rucksack that has a compartment for a laptop. Fits camera, drones, spare batteries charger & power bank.
I acquired a second-hand Tripltek tablet that’s 1000 NITs and also seriously tough and well protected. Those last two mean it’s a bit heavier than some other tablets .. but I’m really enjoying using it over previous phones (even though I had become more than used to using the less bright screens).
Like Dave @OzoneVibe above I use a Tripltek. The 7 inch screen is perfectly adequate for DJI apps and for Litchi. It’s also a useful Android tablet and phone. But the big advantage is the screen brightness, Tripltek offer a moulded extender that allows fitting to my Mini2 controller.
It can also work with Phantom / Inspire 1 and 2 contollers, any other controller presumably with a braket if necessary and is comparable in brightness to a DJI CrystalSky while running a far newer version of Android.
It’s a hefty beast, well protected against knocks and bumps or accidental falls. Plenty of RAM and a slot for more.
One downside may be the cost from new. I found this on eBay which seems quite cheap for what it is:
Notice the spelling BTW, Tripltek has no e in the middle.
Also the Tripltek is very good as a chartplotter for my sailing boat. Then, when I’m anchored in some picturesque cove, I get out the drone and use the tablet for that sitting in the cockpit.
I used an 8" tablet when using my phantom 4, but since having the air3s and Rc2 controller I prefer the RC2, that’s just person preference but if i wanted a bigger screen I’m not 100% but sure could connect to a larger TV or monitor. How big do you really need to see. Or go for the RC pro which I believe has a larger screen than RC2…
If you do end up using something like an ipad mini, I am selling a N3 Tablet holder (and free sun shield) on Ebay for peanuts. I bought the holder / clamp from Heliguy and only used a couple of times - it was great, but I’ve since updated to a newer transmitter with built in screen: DJI RC-N1 Remote Controller Tablet Holder & free fun shade & lanyard | eBay UK
