how does ATC confirm an okay take off within a FRZ? Just followed the correct guidelines and had confirmation it was okay to take off from my application starting location was asked by ATC, within that minute a light aircraft came within the area of my flight application
It’s happened to me a few times now, where I’ve had pre-authorisation from an ATC and I’ve phoned them minutes before my Take Off and a light aircraft/ helicopter has entered my airspace. On both occasions, I lowered my drone to a safe height until they safely passed. Its hard to say if they were lower than 500feet, but as they were not on an approach vector I would be surprised if they were.
On one of those occasions I had arranged to call the ATC back after I had finished, during which I informed them of the event. They were not aware of any aircraft in the area and noted it in their “log”.
Getting an authorisation to fly is not giving you exclusive use of that airspace. It’s still down to you to maintain a clearance distance since, whilst they will probably advise relevant aircraft that you may be there, it’s far far easier for you to hear and see them than they can ever see you .. and they certainly won’t hear you.
Did you get any height restrictions? When they’re busy & using runway 28 I’ve been restricted to 250 ft. Often aircraft look closer than they are, I’ve been flying around south shore and noticed aircraft around however there has been separation, I flying at 250 feet, aircraft 600 ft. I checked adsb exchange as I too thought they were pretty close.
Told guy on phone 400ft he was fine with that told him taking off from south pier and again was all okay, the plane was just off the end of the pier i just waited a little bit longer till it had passed
This! All day, every day!
Shows your being an observant & responsible flyer.
Last time I flew I was on the phone to the tower about to take off and mentioned a large plane flying over.
The guy said 'if that comes low enough for the drone, we will have a lot more to worry about - crack on"
Last time I flew in East Midlands Airport FRZ , ATC restricted my height to 100ft
I’ve just been restricted to 100ft at Gamston and had to pay for the pleasure
Crikey, does that come under Tollerton ? EMA don’t charge ( unless you want to fly at the Aeropark there ( only about 30-50m away from the runway though )
