The Dalmellington Iron Works was in operation between 1848 and 1921 when it was closed during a workers’ strike. It was converted to a brickworks in 1928 which was in operation until it closed in 1976.
The ironworks was connected to Ayr by the Ayr and Dalmellington Railway company (wikipedia link).

Very windy outside, so turning off the sensors and sneaking through 2ft-wide doorway whilst being buffeted about… I tell you, I was bricking it.
