Permission evidence:

The 25 minute wait on hold for the police 101 number wasn’t much fun!

Five points.

You got in at the right time - there’s a NOTAM about a balloon festival in force from Friday!

I got that sick of waiting last time and hung up. Police arrived after i finished, i told them i had permission, that i tried ringing 101 and gave up, they said they weren’t surprised i gave up.

They wonder why no one reports things any more. Then they say that crime is down by x percent. No it is not the crime tthat is going down but the reporting rate.

Had a police officer wander past me there just as I was coming in to land. Fortunately I had better situational awareness than him and stopped the descent and moved the drone - would’ve been at about his head height right where he was walking if I hadn’t. He was entirely oblivious :grimacing:

Heaven help the balloonists if they find themselves drifting over Paisley! :open_mouth:

I claim three bonus points for:

  • A 3-axle articulated dump truck
  • A two-storey portakabin / container office
  • A working conveyor belt

Loanhead Quarry, Beith - Mavic 3 Classic, 21/08/24

High-wind warnings almost as soon as I was in the air and, as you can see, raining today, so no chance of flying over the quarry. Just a quick up, shoot and down to dry off the drone.

The conveyor was working, and you can just about make out the line of ‘stuff’ falling from the ends of the two longer arms if you’ve got the video full screen on a good monitor … but the distance and quality of the video through the rain makes that one a speculative ask

I claim 4 points total, please and thanks.

We appreciate that conditions weren’t ideal for approaching the conveyor but we have looked at the video several times now on large and high pixel count monitors and we agree that we cannot make out the conveyors working. So they certainly don’t pass the “clearly visible” test :frowning:

So we can only give you bonus points for the dump tucks and the stacked portakabins.

3 points.

When a military convoy is sighted. Or is it heavy recovery?

Has anyone found either? Where are the Birthday pictures? Whose position has changed on the Leaderboard? Click-the-Pic™ to find out!

@group-challenges

I did see a convoy of military vehicles on Saturday - sadly unable to fly a drone to get a pic ( though I did have one with me ) due to the crowds of people attending Lytham’s 1940s weekend

Thank you. You said you wanted pictures by a drone in flight, I do have ones that are a bit lower but wasn’t sure if they looked like they had been taken by a drone in flight

Probably still far higher than some have been in the past

It’s just very refreshing to see a picture where the subject is, as required, clearly visible without being taken by a DJI Osmo or an Olympus compact camera as @DroneGeek - Ian - is referring to

Yep, I remember my first attempt at a telephone box last year that had the wires above it and it sent my drone a bit crazy.

Love that you’ve got him looking straight down the lens. Can almost hear him exclaim “What the dickens!”
