Been climbing up there. Some easy routes up the Roaches.:+1: Near the winking man… I said winking!

I don’t think we’re suppose to have long convos on here, maybe the unknown might have to be moved to a different thread until solved :man_shrugging:t2:

I’ve just started climbing but with it being this time of year I’m just at the local indoor climbing wall. Am hoping to make it up there this year though :+1:

Used to go to Wolf Mountain but getting on a bit now so just scramble up the Lakes or Peak District whilst on walks.:hugs:

Probably best to start a new thread with this and get the daily photo thread back on topic :+1:t2:

The things you learn on GADC, I’d never heard of dew ponds before now :grinning:

Do we not have a ‘what the hell is this’ thread? :joy:

It’s quite entertaining, in Google Earth, going back through their timeline of images …

Dogs or cats, Rich? (If you know, you know!)

Seems like the water in it isn’t that deep.

After reading the Wikipedia link properly that @Kirky kindly posted I’m now leaning towards the dew pond theory as well, there is a small image on there of a Portland cement lined pond and I bet it’s cattle having a paddle in the Google Earth images provided by @OzoneVibe :+1:t2:

I’m staying the hell away from any kind of speculation whatsoever :see_no_evil:

Yes, it is a dew pond. Which explains why in some photos (and the 2020 LiDAR survey) the water is absent.

Shame, I was half hoping it was an air vent to a forgotten Victorian tunnel, hundreds of feet below the ground

Explains your absence on mornings at the big meet :grinning:

something else I didn’t know you could do :+1:

What a let down, now doesn’t sound very exciting :joy:

Yes but…it gets better! The photo provided by Kings shows 2 trees at the dew pond and the earliest google earth photo shows 2 trees( by their shadows) one of which has disappeared in the later google photos, provided by OzoneVibe. Is there a dew pond badge:joy::joy:?

Reading through the comment I feel a walk in the field in my near future :joy::joy:

Dew Pond badge, I like it :joy::joy:

Have to wait to see if Torsten @ThorTDL knows more :+1:

I’ll go into that field when the weather clears a bit and sent the drone up closer. It’s probably a Dew Pond as the cows do use it as a source

It’s marked as a pond on some older OS maps (30’s -80’s), there was briefly a similar one to the southeast as well in the 60’s. It’s been there since at least 1870

True I’ve done some research about this one and it’s listed back to 1830 when the farm was build (Newmarket Farm)

@callum found the dry one which was beside the farmhouse
