Farmers use drones for farming with, so saying that they detest drones is a bit like saying they detest tractors (all the farmers I’ve ever met love tractors), or quad bikes (ditto). I can see the point if drone-flying startles the horses, but sheep & cows are generally pretty placid and unlikely to be bothered much. And a horse probably wouldn’t even be aware of a drone much more than about 100’ up.
I think what Farmer Karen meant was that Farmer Karen detests drones, and she’s fully entitled to her bigoted, brain-donor, uninformed, stupid, inconsiderate and, above all, wrong opinion…
Farmer Karen has the misconception that the local (good honest) travelling community use them for stealing their shit.
However., Google Earth does the same job as does the common sense that tells yih all farmers are sat on 000’s of quids of plant mostly easy to get at with quiet areas and quick escape routes.
Thefts of expensive farm equipment are a major problem and I sympathise with any farmer who has been a victim of it, but it is hardly a recent phenomena, and was a major problem long before drones became available on the scale they are now. One might have thought that gps trackers would be useful here. Being a city boy, I wasn’t aware that there was a connection between this sort of crime and the travelling community, and my initial reaction is that travellers would have some difficulty hiding their loot.
Google Earth would be useful to the miscreants in ‘casing’ the layout of farmyards and buildings and plotting getaways, but a drone will provide them with much more up-to-date information and possibly images of the equipment they are targeting. I’m surprised that there aren’t more incidents of farmers shooting drones down with shotguns and claiming that they thought it was a crow after their corn seed!
Another consideration is that the thieves need to sell their loot on to make any money out of it, and the people who they sell them too are, um, farmers. Dishonest and greedy farmers who will be fully aware from the prices asked that the equipment is hookey, and who are therefore as much to blame for the situation as the tealeaves are!
It’s a wicked old world.
Unfortunately the majority of rural crime Is perpetrated by people from outside the community.
Unlike the city where your neighbours will steal the shoes off your feet
So that’s where they went…
Most of the farm crime here is mostly the electronic kit and gps systems from the machinery along with Gattors and quad bikes but mostly it’s the gps systems.
I’ve flown a few times for my local farms when they are working the land and they all love it but they are all small family farms , the big farms don’t want you anywhere near and most of them have their own drones or their land agent has one anyway but the small family run farms I’ve found are really interested and welcoming.
You’re lucky living in Yorkshire.
In Nottinghamshire, they’d steal your socks as well
End of!

Then come back for your footprints.
Spectacular capture of the Tower Bridge. I’m in the US, coming over to the UK to see some of my ancestral towns and villages and am hoping to bring my drone. I’ll be spending a few days in London and hadn’t even considred the idea of going up anywhere in London proper. Your shot has me curious now. I’m brand new here, when I’m cleared to send PMs I might ask you for coordinates/general where you got this great shot.
Lots of people in Nottingham have difficulty walking, coz the thief took their big toes n’all

Thanks so much for the info!
if you do fly at Tower Bridge then look at the bridge lift schedule, it makes for a more interesting image.
Then it started to escalate… now they take the whole foot…
at least there is a silver lining… they can’t put their foot in the their mouth anymore
… win win.
