UK Class Marks, Remote ID and drone regulation changes: What you need to know for 1st January 2026

I have found the Bham “DJI” store to be really good - got my FPV controller 2 from them at a great price as it was an ex display model - they even provided me with a letter / email for it to have a 12 month warranty on it should it/ I have a problem and let me test it out prior to handing over my money for it. This was when it was just about impossible to find a new one in stock.

@MarkR2 you might want to ring them before travelling as I doubt they’d be willing to open a sealed box just to look inside and check the class mark.

You might be able to save yourself a wasted journey

Yes, that’s the plan. Pity the serial number decoder posted earlier doesn’t work - surely the serial number would indicate if it was manufactured before/after the UK1 label was included?

Ask the bot ?

Assuming the serials are sequential and not randomly generated

I asked Gemini and they confirmed this ;o(

Such a lottery for a few months while stock refreshes, and even then some drones will remain in circulation. Only thing I can think of is to submit you proof of purchase to get a sticker. Otherwise people will be using care refresh to get a new drone sent to them, which will cost DJI loads.

And who is to say the replacement refurb is marked?

DJI are skirting round the CAA’s ‘brought to market after 1/1/26’

Looking back at what the ‘bot’ said yesterday, refurbs will also have the UK1 label:

I wonder why my refresh Avatar 2 this week didn’t have one then ?

Good luck with that

Exact same thing happened to me!

Was it from the dji.com online store? Did you keep it or return it?

DJI have been good about my return - I received a pre-paid DPD return label this morning and the Air 3S is on its way back to them. I will try contacting a physical store to see if they can help…

Hi Mark, it was from Amazon which I think is DJI store. Again no hassles returning it but very annoying that DJI had told me it would be UK classification. Hopefully they will get their act together soon, so that we know what we’re buying :+1:

What was the URL of the store you bought from? DJI were specific about the store to use when I enquired.

I first emailed dji-retail[.co.uk] quoting your dji.com chat and was told dji-retail can 't open the factory sealed boxes to check which label(s) they have

After a web-chat with DJI Store - Official Store for DJI Drones, Gimbals and Accessories (United Kingdom), I placed my order here:
Buy DJI Air 3S - Dual-Camera Drone for Travel Photography

So they told me wrong :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Had a response through today to my FOI request:

So, the CAA will receive notification of products placed on the market for the first time, but has received no such notifications. Does that mean that DJI hasn’t actually certified the Avata 360, which is shipping with the UK1 mark… or does it mean they (DJI) are seeing the dozens they shipped to reviewers/influencers last year as a ‘release’ and have then retrospectively applied the UK1?

More worryingly, the CAA doesn’t hold any record of which drones have which classification or how that classification was confirmed. So, it’s pretty much the Wild West for class marks and any manufacturer can say a drone has whatever classification they like because there’s no way for us to check it?

I was expecting there to be something akin to this for the UK classifications.

The CAA is the Market Surveillance Authority for UAS. It’s literally their role to monitor and control compliance against the classification system. But they were not notified of the only UK-class product launched so far and they don’t hold any information about which products have what classifications?

This is insanity. :exploding_head:
