The last confrontation I had was with a Ken who had been watching these “auditors” on YouTube.
One of the questions he asked me was if the drone was under 250g, I said it was and as he had become a drone expert by watching YouTube he would know that what I was doing was perfectly legal. I then told him that I needed to concentrate on flying and cracked on. He got bored with being ignored an buggered off.
DJI Mini 4 Pro is a great choice and as already said, will serve you well.
SSSI’s can be a bit difficult to get your head around but the vast majority of them relate to items a drone will not affect. Nesting birds are probably the biggest worry but that is only for certain periods of the year. There will be plenty of other places to fly during those times.
Go ahead and buy your drone and enjoy yourself and remember the mantra - Don’t be a Dick but also remember that - Trees are Dicks - stay away from trees they will spoil your day
Thanks.
Correct me if I wrong but most, if not all bird species, breed in the Springtime.
The DJI Mini 4 Pro has obstacle avoidance, which is good to know, although I would not be testing it to find out if the avoidance systems worked ut flying towards an object like a tree.
cheers
Most birds breecd in Spring, but some are earlier or later. Magpies breed in February, gulls and big raptors don’t fledge until early July, for example.
Spring/Summer is the main time but some SSSI’s cover visiting birds in winter but that is mainly for feeding purposes.
Obstacle avoidance on any drone may well be fooled by trees as OA has difficulty in spotting twigs particularly on bare trees in winter.
DJE Media is complete garbage content - ignore it. The guy is one of those schmucks that deliberately seeks to annoy, frustrate and confuse most security guys just doing their jobs and where they of course don’t have a full grasp of drone regulations etc. I’ve been flying them for a year and still don’t understand all of it. Of note, you’ll see notices re ‘drone flying not allowed’ but don’t confuse unenforceable council policy with real CAA law.
I don’t agree with what he does. However, agree or not, he is making people aware of the current law. That said, so many of those so-called “auditors” actions may result in a tightening of regulations and a change in the law
Thanks for getting back to topic. Didn’t expect this post to touch on a tragic and devastating event such as this. I just want a nice drone flying hobby to enjoy
For the moment, ignore youtube and its many frauditors. Concentrate soley on the drone code and buying a drone. Im quite often in and around glasgow for work, give me a shout if you want to meet up and have a chat. Might even think of organising another meet soon, before the really crap weather grabs hold.
He’s taken it upon himself to do his best to ensure our pastime comes under ever greater scrutiny - instead of taking the ‘Don’t be a Dick’ approach, he’s actively embraced the ‘Be a Dick’

I am in Bearsden, Glasgow. Bought my Mini 4 Pro Combo about a month ago and love it. I use for recreation and roof condition reports for my rental properties. Could not live without it now.
@jimrey welcome to GADC, check the members map and zoom in to see who’s close, you have quite a few experienced drone users close to you, myself included.
I have a Mini 4 Pro and we could arrange a meet up if you want to see before you buy or decide which to buy.
