Hi there,
I’ve begun my FPV journey in November last year. I started with a Neo 2 on its own. Then realised what else it can do with the controller, so sold the single Neo 2, bought the Neo 2 Fly More Combo and explored that for a while. Then I realised that I can fly the Neo 2 in FPV, so I bought the Goggles N3 (special price at £189) and the Motion Controller. As if this wasn’t exciting enough, I realised that the journey was taking me towards proper FPV, so I knew a simulator (Liftoff) and an Avata 2 (refurb at £289) were the next 2 stepping stones on this track. I therefore also got the DJI FPV Controller, as I can use it for the sim and the Neo 2 and Avata 2 in manual mode.
Flying the sim is super important to learn manual flying. I needed about 30h in Liftoff and used the Joshua Bardwell video series on YT to get into it.
The Avata 2 is a great drone for entry level FPV flying. As of yesterday I’ve got a Tiny Whoop (Meteor Pro O4), which again can be flown with my DJI gear. Just takes a little bit of tinkering to configure it right.
As somebody said further up in this thread: I had to do some explaining to Mrs Ptnqmstr with regards to all the parcels arriving.
But I’m having a lot of fun right now.
I hope this is useful.
School boy error, thats what drop off lockers were designed for ;o)
Or get it delivered to work.
I second this, I have a Pocket ELRS and it is perfect for me. Cheap, well made, small enough to chuck in a bag
I’m going to go off piste and suggest a tiny whoop. You are going to crash a ton of times, something like a Mobula7 will just bounce 90% of the time, and when it doesn’t the spares are cheap. Not too powerful so it won’t scare you off, you can even fly it indoors.
I don’t have an Avata but I do have a Neo, which is super versatile but not proper FPV at all. People love the Avata but they are hella expensive. I have a mob7 that I absolutely love, the only downsides are that it can’t fly in wind above 7-8mph, and the camera is analog not digital but honestly when you are starting out that is absolutely fine (and the camera costs £20 not £100 when you inevitably break it).
And of course you can pick up great used bargains on eBay. My first FPV was a Tinyhawk 3 that I paid £85 for the drone, controller and goggles. Did me proud for about a year when I upgraded to the mob7.
What about the The BETAFPV Meteor75 Pro O4 is this a good one to start what other stuff would I need for the drone?
Good is subjective. I started with the Pavo20 Pro and recently bought an Avata 2 for some more stability whilst I get into FPV.
That drone comes with a video transmitter (DJI O4), so you’ll need compatible goggles - mentioned above. You’ll also need a compatible FPV controller; I use the RadioMaster Pocket (ELRS), as well as the DJI FPV - both are good. Beyond this, it is batteries and a charger.
