I am planning a trip from Monday to the area below in the screen shot. Believe it or not 25 years ago I went there with a friend offroading on our mountain bikes. I remember riding over disuses railway lines that went for miles and had a huge drop on either side, people were absaling, and climbing. I can’t remember where it was now I barely remember riding past a place called Two Bridges, and Paington or something.
Anyway does anyone know a good spot for flying your sub 249gr drone, (Mini 3 Pro) without upsetting anyone?
Cheers
Proof of me riding there many many years ago
they are very strict inside the national park where no drone flying is allowed. They also use wardens to reinforce the rules. I have been caught a couple of times in the past
Dartmoor National Park covers **954 km2 (368 sq mi) Would it hurt to designate a small area where people could fly drones with suitable warning signs etc?
Byelaw 18:3
“For the purpose of this byelaw “model aircraft” means an aircraft which either weighs not more than 5 kilograms without its fuel or is for the time being exempted (as a model aircraft) from provisions of the Air Navigation Order and “power driven” means driven by the combustion of petrol vapour or other combustible vapour or other combustible substances or by one or more electric motors.”
To us mere mortals, this is slightly confusing. Can someone explain, " for the time being exempted (as a model aircraft) from provisions of the Air Navigation Order" ?
My best guess is it’s a garbled reference to Section 23 of the ANO , which exempts small unmanned aircraft from most of the provisions of the ANO. But that only got inserted 2016 as far as I can tell. And if course the ANO does not use the term ‘model aircraft’.
Of interest is the 5kg cap they’ve written into their bylaws.
Does it mean we can happily fly a Matrice 300 (6.3 kg) I wonder?
