Why don't people credit the music in their videos?

A little whinge from me I’m afraid. I love watching drone videos in this section, but the majority do not give any credit for the (probably) free music they use. Some do, of course, and very professionally.
There are many excellent musicians who use their time and talent to produce music which they give away for free and I, for one, am extremely grateful for this valuable resource. @EricMatyas is one and he produces some amazing work.
I don’t think it’s asking a lot to spend a little extra editing time and put a credit on the end of the video for the music used. There is some fantastic editing here and it’s well within most people’s capabilities. To turn it round, would you be happy if someone downloaded your drone footage and just used it without crediting you? I don’t believe so. End of rant. Thanks.

I don’t tend to credit in the video itself, but I always credit in the description of the video where ever I upload it and I usually include a link to where I downloaded the music from.

Thanks for mentioning my music…I appreciate it. One thing everyone needs to please remember: In order to use my music legally, my attribution (screen credit) must appear in the actual video. The reason for this is that viewers often don’t read the text descriptions. If you wish to include my credit in the accompanying text description on Youtube, Vimeo, etc., that’s fine…but it must be in addition to including it in the actual video. This is stated on the attribution information page on my website:

Agree with both Ash and Eric, especially as he is so generous to GADC members. It is annoying to find someone has taken your work without permission. I have found a picture of mine of a breakfast being enjoyed in a Hackney cafe used on a Greek B&B’s website :slightly_frowning_face:

Just for the record, I haven’t used any of @EricMatyas music in my videos but if I do, I will credit on screen in the video. I always read the attribution section of the composers website and all the ones I’ve used so far haven’t mentioned crediting on screen they only state they must be credited in the video description. And that’s what I’ve done :+1:t2: apart from one of my videos where I actually know the composer in person, he asked me to credit on screen so I did so.

I’ve always put a music credit at the end of my videos. It’s something I was required to do for the licensed tracks in my wedding films and now do it for all videos. Totally agree, @EricMatyas music is amazing! :+1:

Thanks for the comments. As I said, there are many people that are very respectful and always give due credit, as it should be. I am in awe of some of the music producers who clearly do it just for the love of their art.

I’m the same as @DeanoG60 I always credit the artist and website in the description rather than the credits.
Only because that’s how I thought it should be reading the guidelines from where I purchase my music.

Note that I’ve said purchase my music… so although I do not give the artist screen time I do list thier work in the description and pay for the products.

I think its great that we have all this music for our videos and its only right to have the composer listed somewhere within the production.

There are copyright laws that if pushed you could very well fall foul of. Just be warned.

There is a load of free music on the web, lots of them state in the terms of use that you should credit them in your video description… That is fine, and I am happy to do that as every music producer should be credited However, insisting on having a credit IN the video is a step too far ,in my opinion. check very carefully the terms of use first…Remember ,there is a whole truckload of free music out there people…!!! :+1: :+1:
