6th Birthday Challenge Notifications

@PingSpike I’ve been getting email notifications about every post in the GADCBC6 thread, even though my notification level is set to normal. I’ve not even posted in it.

I’ve not yet tried seeing it to mute in the thread itself, thought I’d mention it first.

Hi Jez,

Do you mean every single post? As in, you’ve had 120+ notifications?

You’re a member of @group-challenges which would mean you get notified every time that group is mentioned, which is quite often

Go to the burger menu at the top, then Groups, and try removing yourself from the group.

However, if you do mean a notification for every single post no matter what, then I’ll take a closer look

You’re right - it’s the group-challenges notifications, it just seemed like an awful lot at one point. Never mind, I seem to be charging headlong into senility recently, this is just another tick on the checklist…

You can join and leave the group at will, it won’t prevent you from dipping in to the thread

Glad it wasn’t a more serious issue or q bug :+1:t2:

There are reasons for the number of alerts hitting your mailbox - the daily score updates are meant for general interest and also to encourage members of group-challenges to enter; as well as the none-too-shabby cash prizes most of the previous participants find the challenge of finding the subjects and maybe having to try a new technique to score some of the bonus points is a great deal of fun.

At the moment the competition has been underway for less than a week. People have various questions or are asking for a specific ruling on a definition or the content of a subject. Where we feel that the question requires an answer for both the original questioner and the rest of the entrants then again we use the group-challenges tag.

As the competition progresses and people become comfortable with the rules and the requirements we expect the number of answered question broadcasts to drop to almost zero. You will however, if you remain in the group, get two notifications a day - one for the comments and picture for the daily state of play and one for the latest scores.

Rather than mute the notifications, Jez, why not compete again this year? :sunglasses:
