Did manage to fly those new 8S batteries on my Era 5 and AOS 7 - even my wife noticed the grin on my face after the flights
Both quads have the ‘standard acro 6S kv’ motors (1750kv for the 5" and 1350kv for the 7") and while they are no slouch, I miss the extra push you get from higher kv’s (a 5" on 2000kv motors is something else )
Enters the 8S batteries - giving you an extra 33% kv (I added a 90% limiter not to go overboard - so adding an extra 20% in the tests)
The batteries I got are quite heavier than the 6S I usually fly (6S/1400mAh @ 240g vs 8S/1380mAh @ 300g) - these are the smallest/lightest 8S made by Bonka (Tattu has some 1050mAh @ 240g - but no stock in the UK and they no longer ship here from Germany it seems…)
Big extra oomph in the punch out’s - and you can do lot more of them in the same flight without ruining flight time
hover throttle noticeably lower despite the extra weight
Quite a bit of extra speed at the same camera angle
Noticeable increase of ‘hang time’ - feels like I could do a 20-sides Rubik’s cube
I think the 5" may be even better with a slightly smaller battery (hopefully those Tattu’s will come back in stock at some point)
The 7" (with 3008 motors) seems to be in the perfect spot though - punching out like a 5" racer now despite the extra 140g
Here is the 7" test flight - I left the mic sound on for this one (I am somehow still in awe of the sound of a 7inch acro drone…)
