A little build thread

Umph. Updated my crsf tonight. Took 2 hours. Standing on 1 leg. ‘More stable ota connection’ they said. ‘bind and fly’ they said.

Bullshit

Which version did you update to Karl? I heard the latest beta is having some issues with binding

Rx - I looked at crossfire etc but figured I’d cut a cost there at the moment as it’s been a fair little outlay so far. By the sounds of what I’m reading here… It’ll be a quick upgrade if I like fpv. :joy:.

The Rx and TX are both new, hoping they’ll both be fully updated to possibly help with the issue?

Assuming a failsafe is when you set the drone to basically stop dead? The option you do in beta flight if you lose signal?

FC - so this can be plugged into a laptop/betaflight and just checked that everything works as it should before doing anything else? I bought it stacked with esc from a shop, can’t remember which one. Mamba not a very good fc then?

It will definitely stop dead… when it ploughs headfirst into the ground

More chance of finding unicorns and wizzards in your back garden

Then that was my problem. The latest. Had to bootloader the tango 2 twice. Then all the nano’s

Mamba is good :+1:

Yes you can plug it in via USB and check that the gyro functions etc before soldering anything up. The Mamba is a good FC but any fpv electronics can be faulty and because of the nature of fpv hobby and people’s varying skills with soldering most shops will be reluctant to take a faulty FC back after its been soldered. Its just a precaution that Karl was recommending :+1:t2:

What we are all trying to say is that it’s about the journey, not the destination.
A lot of guys enjoy the building and config more than the flying.
Its a steep learning curve, but its a nice journey :+1:

A failsafe is when the RX loses connection with the TX.

Yes always connect to betaflight before doing any soldering just check that it connects and that the accelerometer is working OK. Just move the flight controller around and make sure the little picture of the drone is moving.

Well I haven’t for sure…

You can patch RX but you need to make some sort of odd USB adapter thingy. I have not bothered.

Heh, not if you setup GPS Rescue… which I actually had when I had my failsafe, right over @Earwig’s head.

Sorry @Cathy we’ve proper hi-jacked your thread here! :man_facepalming:t2:

It’s only because we all get excited when someone announces a new build :star_struck: lol

Failsafe - actually had me laughing there!!! Stops dead when it hits the ground. :joy::joy:. Seems that most things in this area involve crashing.

Fc - I’ll definitely do that with beta flight then. Actually, I think I’ll try get bf installed on the laptop just now.

Dont worry about jumping all over any thread of mine, I quite like it. Let’s me find out who’s who and what the feeling is of a group. :+1: :+1: So far, deano if the frsky lover… :joy:

So… a bit of advice.

When soldering onto ESC or FC (etc) put some tape over the bits you are not soldering.

Twice now I’ve splatted solder onto the components. First time killed the FC completely. Second time was on my Runcam Hybrid 4K camera, luckily I managed to remove the solder with judicious use of solder braid with flux on it. I was very lucky.

Soldering - cheers for that. I’ve ordered a little pretend circuit board thing to practice on. I’ve only ever soldered wiring together, never to a board so it’ll be interesting. :joy:

Joshua Bardwell has a brilliant guide to soldering.
I was pretty good before watching it, but I have improved since then.
(I have been soldering for about 35 years)

 Crossfire all the way for me @Earwig will tell you how much I begged him to upgrade to Crossfire  and he admitted defeat made the upgrade and never looked back!

FLUX! Get some good quality no clean flux! :+1:t2:

Aw magic, thanks. :+1: The wires I’ve previously soldered… Em… Are rough as hell. :joy:

Beta flight… 4.3.0 or 4.2.11? Thinking the latter as the first one is an rc1.
