Possibly a member of GADC? I hope he charged them for it!

Odd one this. She was an ex-trawler chartered as safety boat for a windfarm, got into trouble i n the rough weather (a common reason is thet sea water gets into the fuel and the engine stops), so her crew were taken off and abandoned her at sea. She’s obviously drifted and fetched up on these rocks, but apparently the CG can’t find her owners, who are the people responsible for her. It’s winter, so it won’t be long before she breaks up. It all sounds a bit dodgy, but it looks like neither the owners nor the authorities are eager to take on the costs of dealing with her.

It’s a bit worrying that she was drifting for some time and it was not until the following day that she was spotted on the rocks. Was nobody monitoring her? The CG probably were but they’re keeping schtum; perhaps they expect legal problems. These are busy shipping lanes, traffic heading south out of the Celtic Sea from Dublin or Liverpool, ferries from Fishguard & Pembroke Dock to Rosslare, and coastal tankers heading for Milford Haven all pass close to the area, and, abandoned and possibly without power, so no lights, she must’ve been a significant collision hazard!

I did in 2 minutes…

It’s also an active MAIB Investigation.

AIS track was lost on the 7th December in Irish waters.

This vessel on the north coast of Pembs; I doubt the Irish Ferries ferry and tankers for Milford Haven were concerned about this as a shipping hazard… :winking_face_with_tongue:

I’ve done a few videos on this, will be interesting to see what happens to it!

It is now; what about when it was drifting abandoned in the Irish Sea’s busy shipping lanes? I’m guessing it was being monitored by CG, but we are not told this, ans apparentky nobody want’s to own up to owning it (maze of sub-contractors, operating companies, charter companies & so on).

She was sheltering just off the coast where she is now, in breezy southerly winds, when she ran aground (not quite sure how that happens on a windward shore but anyway…) Crew were onboard the whole time, and were only removed by RNLI lifeboat once she was aground. She was never drifting out in the Irish Sea…
