Adventures in 3D printing

German Shepherd or the other?
I have real ones of both so don’t need plastic ones

GLENN!!!

It’s been 48hrs mate without a peep @Longstride !

I want to know what you’ve been printing

Because I still have that Creality Ender 3 burning a hole in my Amazon watch list

I looked at the Amazon link but couldn’t see the size anywhere :man_shrugging:

Thanks Dave :+1:t2:

Ok guys, I’ve not been idle on the 3D printing front
Firstly, that FlashForge Finder printer just dropped £50 right after I bought it! Typical! So its a very good buy at £300 now! I really like it, easy to setup!

First thing I found when I bought some extral reels of plastic wire was the cassette on the printer doesnt fit full size reels! So guess what? I 3D printed a new reel holder that I found on thingyverse and hey presto I’m able to print from normal full sized cassettes!

I’m just processing a 3D model from flying the drone today, I’ll share that shortly for interest. Meanwhile I’ve been scanning my mates on my iphone and then 3D printing them, see photo!IMG_0329.mov (1.8 MB)

I paid for a months subscription on Pix4D “Modeller” the one aimed at Drone modelling only (its 47 euro per month, start stop any time).

Trying to 3D print this currently, but I think I need to model better, fly closer and get more detail. The Pix4D capture app only lets you fly at 10m and I think I need to grab the images MUCH closer to get a better model.

Are there still settings to … set?
My friend’s printer doesn’t leave all those spare strands as it prints.

Excellent

Thanks for the update Glenn!

Could be, I’ve not done much with the nozel yet. However even on You tube I think complex prints have a little stringing? I’m quite happy with how its printing right now, but I would like to stop those strings, not sure how, maybe reduce temp or height of the nozel etc. will experiment.

From drone to model to 3D printer!

Needs more detail and better image capture but proves the process, can be done quickly and relatively cheaply.

Brilliant!

Keep the updates coming @Longstride

I thought I’d print your stl file to test my repairs to my printer, the poor thing has worn out some parts and others just got loose. 3hr 36min

This print is a medium set print without a nozzle wipe during print, there’s always stringing depending on the quality of the PLA.
To minimise stringing, first I set my nozzle height to .2030mm for a .4mm nozzle and hot end set to 189 degrees which is the best setting for this particular reel of PLA; yours may be slightly different so just experiment, “invest in a good quality feeler gauge” then in your slicer play around with ‘filament retraction lift distance’ and ‘retraction speed’.
The thing is once you get to know your printer more you’ll find the best way for your particular printer. I imported this model into Fusion 360 but there’s nothing I could do to it in there.

That’s awesome mate! Thanks for the advice!

Really amazing to see somebody pick up the STL from something I modelled and print it.

It sure is amazing, I’ve printed so many of my ideas, I just love it.

Also, make a habit of sealing your filament in an airtight box or zip seal bag as it can take in moisture in no time and this will affect your prints.

This is still one of my favourite prints to date and one of my earliest.

Some others.

Wow, did you design all those?

No, most are from Thingyverse, the GSD at the top was one I paid $25 for but well worth it as I couldn’t find a free one.
The only thing I’ve designed and printed so far are some letters for the name of the horse.
