Air assist

Hey guys has anyone used this? Its a great little app shows you where the emergency services are flying in realtime so you can get out the way or know not to fly in that area at all, there’s a free version too

Downloaded, because it’s the sort of thing you forget about until a heli lands on your practice field… I have a heliport only a mile away where the police and air ambulance a/c are based, as well as it’s use for general private helicopter flights. The air ambulance generally flies at 600’AGL, 200’ clear of legit drone height, but the police a/c seems lower and often hovers during operations, and it is not shown on FR24, so I would appreciate information that will enbable me to stay well away from it! A hovering helicopter is highly unpredictable and may peel off in any direction as the hover deteriorates, so it is as well to stay well away from such flying!

I was under the impression that the positioning transponders on police helicopters were not available to the public, for operational security reasons since the crims monitor them, but apparently this is not so, just that they don’t appear on FR24.

Get out and fly, seriously. Some of you guys think way too much.

It gives you the speed altitude callsign etc here’s one hovering relatively low over Bristol

How many times has that actually happened to you? The Scottish Charity Air Ambulance is stationed 1.5 miles from my house. I fly all over the local area, and all over scotland and northern england. I have never, ever, never ever ever, had to land because a heli is landing in my practise field.
John, get out and fly your drone ffs. Stop thinking/fantasising about it. Stop thinking about what could possibly happen if all the bad karma in the world was suddenly directed at you. Stop thinking about what could go wrong. Stop thinking about all the bad scenarios. Start thinking about light nights and light winds, what can happen when things go well. Forget the seagulls and electromagnetic storms, forget all of the utter shite you have read that scares you into not flying. Get your batteries charged and get out, take some pictures or videos, and post them

And when they do, they take for ever to land

I don’t really understand the benefit. Do you have to be looking at your phone the whole time to determine when something is getting too close? Better off keeping your eyes on the drone and listening/looking out for passing aircraft in my view.

https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ shows all aircraft, including police

And more! FR24 is shite in IMHO.

It has a nicer looking interface than adsbexchange, that’s about it
