Amateur drone pilot came within seconds of causing 'catastrophic' crash above Manchester

Until DJI became the market leader ;o)

Lol. Technology leader maybe… But that is very quickly getting overrun by opensource…

Edit:
And I should say. I’m not against punishing idiots for endangering people. But assuming everyone will do something wrong is down right idiotic in itself…

I completely agree. To me a drone is just a mobile phone camera with propellers (other than the obvious responsibilities/legalities that come with using one). A hotel told me I couldn’t film their garden this week, yet I didnt see any signs saying no mobile phones? So the exact same activity is both prohibited and allowed. People don’t stop to consider the lack of logic.

Lots of speculation on this thread :joy:

I didn’t read the MEN article, our local papers in Kent are bad enough for poor reporting.

Judging by the OP the kid had Autism, and, for me, that is the saddest part of this story really. He probably didn’t know 100% the consequenses of his actions. He probably didn’t set his drone up to remain safe and within the law. Hes messed around with the settings quickly then gone outside to fly… in the process he has removed the 120m restriction from the drone.

There is little detail in images from a drone at 120m as it is, so I doubt he was trying to get some great footage. Just took it up and didn’t stop, I guess…

I’m glad the outcome meant no one lost their lives. And I hope Nathan has learned a very important lesson.

Yes, absolutely… He probably didn’t know better though.

I only have a Mini 4k and got both operator and flyer ID’s because I had no previous experience about what I was doing, what harm I could potentially cause and what the law was. I don’t have Autism though,

Personally I think he has been let down by the people who should be looking out for him.

I mean… I speculated a bit as I hadn’t read the MEN article

You’ve probably not missed any facts, I think they largely speculate on every article they publish

Facts and the media are opposite ends of the spectrum, generally.
