Hi all,
i’ve bought a DJI mini 2 and looking forward to flying it. I have registered and completed the operator and fly ID.
My concerns is looking into areas i can actually get permission from. I’m struggling to find private land and i emailed the council and test valley say they don’t generally allow drones to fly on there land. Seems so difficult.
Can anyone give me some tips. I also haven’t seen any bylaws from the council to warrant them saying this.
regards,
Matt

Hi @mmatt968 and welcome to GADC.
Take a look at GADC’s Drone Scene for places to fly in your area.

Hi, thank for this. My worry is some of those sites technically are council land. Test valley said generally they don’t allow for flying of drones. I tried to find bylaws but can’t find any.
I might be over thinking it…

They don’t own the sky.
Its a hard one to get your head round when staring out, any land owner can stop you taking off and landing (TOAL) on their land, but not overflying it (except for the usual airspace restrictions, airports etc).
The rules are even easier for the Mini 2 as to where you can fly, enjoy it, its a great bit of kit
If there isn’t any by-laws stopping you then go for it, just stick to the drone code. As Chris said they don’t own the sky.

its a strange one as they state ‘we don’t generally allow permission on the website’ and i emailed them and they said no to flying over land.
Been reading some of the forums and it seems councils don’t know the rules about airspace.
I think i’m just going to stay away from crowded areas for a while and pick my time. Go early or late evening to start with.
cheers for the replies
Matt
