Hi,
I am wondering if anyone knows of any good places that are just outside of London to go flying?
I have been looking at Heaver Castle but I think they might charge a fee (according to the website) to fly there

London’s a big place @alexmciver
North, south, east, west? Or any direction?
South but any direction is fine
Heaver Castle wont allow recreational private flights on or from their land. They’ll charge commercial bodies like the BBC a substantial amount to use and film on their land but for the likes of us mere mortals it’s a no no. By all means find a bit of public land nearby if there is one and take off from there and fly over.
Google maps is a great place to start to find good areas of open land to fly from. Drone Assist will help and Grey Arrows very own Dronescene.co.uk is very good.
Yeah I have had a look at Drone Scene as well as adding some cool locations to it before.
I have had a look at Reculver towers as well
tbh all over uk is better to fly than in london
If you fancy a castle, Bodiam has a couple of locations on Drone Scene which allow you to get a some great shots.
I’m in North London and prior to lock down used to head over to Hertfordshire (so think Watford, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead) at least once a month…some of the rural views are stunning, so it got me thinking, now I have a drone maybe with all that open space I should do a few flights….question is, if I start flying over fields and meadows, who do I ask permission from and how do I find these people as I know not all the land is council owned.
Thanks for the recommendation of Bodiam castle it’s not too far away from me
It’s where you take off & land that matters, not where you are flying over (while abiding by any restricted zone rules). There are a few institutions that try to make you think otherwise (National Trust).
You’re welcome buddy.
Thanks, much appreciated
