Apps and utilities to view drones that broadcast Drone ID and Remote ID data

I took out the neighbourhood last night :grimacing:

This is absolutely right. I tend to fly FPV so usually with others when I fly (do the Mavic solo, but nowhere near as often). It is a big concern really. Not my biggest but up there.

We’ve moved some posts over to the Remote ID thread, as this thread is about apps to view Remote ID.

Another RID scanner hits the market, Dronetag RIDER.

For something that can be built for about £10, this one is ridiculously priced at $899

This one also collects harvests all the RID data it finds in the skies and stores it on their servers indefinitely.

Including the location of the pilot, which could be you at your home just doing random testing or setups

(when RID comes to the UK)

Some interesting data protection and GDPR issues there then.
Would be a shame if they ended up in court.

Direct broadcast RID uses WiFi, no mobile signal required.

I couldn’t decide which emoji to end that sentence on… possible choices were (not in any order):

ok… but… the CAA guidance seems to be pushing for hybrid RID, but they have acknowledged that hybrid RID will take time (and way more importantly money) to develop so they want direct RID implemented

so… does this not mean that direct RID expects a mobile phone signal

or does direct RID just broadcast from the uav and controller on 2.4ghz, so the range is limited to the broadcast power and packet bandwidth of the 2.4ghz signal which in the EU (including UK) is limited to 20db. which means about 100m / 300ft from either device… so if the uav is flying at 100m… vertically… you ain’t going to get a signal

injecting fake rid signals with an esp32 which are known to have very poor WiFi power is just pointless as it will just provide the fake signals at a very short range from the esp32

No, never.

Direct RID is WiFi (and optional, Bluetooth) only.

Network RID needs an Internet connection.

Hybrid RID needs an Internet connection, or falls back to Direct Broadcast RID.

We did some tests of RID range at Beacon Country Park a while back.

It maxed out at around 350m.

Yes.

We dont need it, we have 1000 GADC members with a loft to stick them in

Does it transmit 100 different operator locations for my one drone? Getting beaten up by the local drone haters is what worries me most about RID.
