Are RAF Valley asking for all drone flights on Anglesey to be registered?

Posted on RAF Valley’s FB page, it implies all flights need to be registered;

Flying a drone on Anglesey this summer?

saw this on FB yesterday - I sort of get that this guy who is doing the website is trying to make it easier for people to request permission to fly in the FRZ’s but he should set the site up - make sure that the RAV Valley guys will accept the request from it then contact the CAA and put a link to it in the NOTAMS then it will look more official and have more of an impact as currently if people are using Drone Scene or Drone Map they wont see this and will have to do it the old school way as per what ever the contact details are in the NOTAM

as for any other flights - mmmm there is no legal mandate so why the ask - very very odd - a few people have posted on the RAF page under the post about that too.

Seeing more and more have ago app’s / pages popping up and while the info for these good to fly / notam checker sites / apps looks OK should it they be trusted ?? Just seems like a data harvest to me.

AH I see that some of the feedback has been taken onboard

So flights outside of a FRZ basically looks like its just a flight plan tool to make people aware of the flights you maybe making as its just really asking for location and date and time as all the rest is optional

The in zone ones need more info - but will any of this feed to official drone safe maps ?

I don’t mind this kind of advise, have you ever seen how many trainer jets take off there daily, no I get it and would register now happily

I have two takes on this…

Fly within an FRZ - Seek and obtain relevant permission
Fly within a CTR - Knock yourself out, nobody else’s business!

That makes sense but the way the post is worded plus there’s an option for in & out of FRZ, looks like it’s all Anglesey

I’d say “can” is the key word there :+1:

I just think the post is poorly worded.

My read of it boils down to what @uav_hampshire said.

So no, no change.

If I think about this a bit more - it seems the issue here is that the RAF Valley team want to know where all drones are so as to secure the safety of low flying aircraft that might be in the area - if that is the case they use have a massive warning zone highlighting the main routes they use for training / flights etc and maybe in that warning NOTAM they have a link to that site and request that people do log the flight out of courtesy really - I guess they have had issues in the past maybe ?

Just feel that while they are trying to do a good thing, that this is a poor way to go about it and they should be getting NATS/ CAA onboard as it just does not feel official - yes there privacy page makes it seem a bit more legit but they can do better

Many years ago as a newly qualified PPL, I was crossing the Clwyd valley.at 2000ft. Two USAF F111 (it was that long ago) came very near. I contacted Valley to advise them and to ask if there were any more nearby. The reply was that they basically didn’t know. Fast forward to last year and I was walking by Lake Ogwen and a pair of F15’s flew over lass than a 100ft. Perhaps there’s more danger with low flying military than flying outside of the FRZ’s on the Island.
