A couple of weeks ago some of you might remember that i put my Mavic Air 2 into a tree.
Prior to going out that morning I remembered that my drone insurance had expired and i had to renew it. I did that at about 09:19, paid by credit card and it showed on my statement as ‘pending’ which is normal.
I went out flew and had the accident. Rang the insurers and explained i wanted to claim, they said they had no record of the cover, I pointed out it was still on my credit card statement as ‘pending’. They said OK we’ll get the ball rolling.
Drone collected by DPD, delivered to Heliguy for assessment and repair…so I thought.
Today I get email from Coverdrone (the insurers) saying I was not on cover after all.
Seems like they didn’t take the funds as expected after I pointed out i wanted to claim.
£426.00 repair bill for me now.
It’s true, you only know how good an insurance company is when you try to claim.
Caveat emptor I guess?
Worth an arsey email or a letter to the onbudsman.
But look at from the outside. Insurance lapses, then renewed then a claim ?
How long had it been expired?
@milkmanchris Yeah i totally get how it looks so I’m not too bothered. When i factor in the £100 excess and the £100 for the cost of insurance, in only have to find £200 odd. It had lapsed for a few months so sods law eh?
Can still be proved accident was after renewal by the time of the transaction you made being before the accident shown in the flight logs.
All insurers are bastards anyway, a friends wife works for one of the bigger ones, she spends her days looking for ways to refuse claims.
Fuck knows how she sleeps at night, waste of a good law degree if you ask me.
@stevesb agreed, i can prove the time of the accident but they are saying they did not take payment and the fact it was showing as ‘pending’ (which is normal for any transaction on a credit card) means nothing.
The part that hurts the most is I used to ‘Big up’ Coverdrone even after i explained what had gone on as I was led to believe that they would honour it.
Like Chris said, bastards all of them.
Ask your card company if there was a problem with the payment or it was declined by Coverdrone. Could be helpful if you go to the Ombudsman
Look at your plan/documentation. It will tell you when the cover started. Payment doesn’t matter (unless it never and has still not gone through)
What’s on the paperwork?
@Crackerjack Have already been on to Virgin Money (CC issuers) they tell me they are not able to show anything that was ‘Pending’ as onece it’s requested it goes away.
@firstadekit I never received the policy which, was strange as told by the representative when i rang to notify of the claim. He said it should appear straight away…it never did. It was at that point that i pointed out it was showing as Pending on my CC. Subsequent to my call they decided for whatever reason not to take payment therefore not starting the cover…
Sounds like a technical or/and human error followed by some bad luck.
Sod’s law, as they say.
Insurer’s don’t like paying out full stop, they will try anything not to pay a claim, and something like this is gold dust to them, sadly no docs and no confirmation your drone has been underwritten you are on a losing streak I’m afraid
I’m sorry you are having this experience. Unfortunately I am beginning to suspect that Moonrock Drone Insurance is going to go the same way with my claim. A week later and I haven’t even had an acknowledgement of my claim.
Is there anyone on here that has made a claim with coverdrone to be able to share their experiences good or bad, thus may be helpful, cheers Len
Usually when you take out insurance, when the payment has been authorised, you will receive an insurance policy document detailing the time/date from which it applies to when it expires. Did you receive anything like this?
Can’t say I would blame it solely on the Insurance company to be honest. Flying your drone, without confirmation that you are covered, and then crashing it into a tree, at least to me, puts the blame solely on yourself… That being said, yes “ALL” Insurance companies are bastards. Well except for Royal London who handled my mothers life insurance claim, when she passed away last year and paid out, within a week…
Lesson learned me thinks
I made two claims last year and received a replacement drone within a week, this was with Coverdrone.
Maybe as your policy had lapsed for a few months, there was no facility to renew.
Hence, the pending, as it may have required a new policy.
Pat
@B0M0A0K Hopefully yours will be all ok.
@Dorje after i made the payment all i checked before leaving the house was that my credit card had worked. It showed as pending which is normal. I thought all was good.
