When I first started this hobby a few months ago I went for the old analogue video system as I figured this was the cheapest video system to implement and should be fairly fault tolerant to interference, and will not fail catastrophically when my drone goes out of range. In other words the picture will start to go fuzzy as the drone goes out of signal range rather than just cut out completely.
I bought some Eachine DV800 box goggles which barely work, and don’t work at all when other pilots are flying at the same time.
The other thing I didn’t factor in because I didn’t know was that most people are flying digital video transmission systems that don’t play well analogue.
In your opinion which is the best all round video system and goggles for free style fpv ?
My ideal goggles would be able to work with both analogue and digital systems and possibly accommodate glasses , although I can use box goggles without glasses as I am near sighted.
For Analouge, it is a can of worms. It is a users preference. The best advice i can give is go to some meet ups and try as many different goggles as people will let you. Take notes on each set.
I use skyzones 04o pros. Love them.
Alot swear by fatshark. It really is a minefield.
I’ve got the same, have been super happy with them. Fully adjustable diopters were a must for me and they work great for analog. I decided to stick with analog while I was still learning and crashing a lot, plus I live in a no fly zone so do a lot of flying indoors.
For digital I recently bought Goggles N3 to pair with my Neo and a Pavo Femto. I’m sure there are other better goggles out there but for the money they are really good and the digital quality is a huge step up from analog. But so is the cost of replacement cameras - £100 for an O4 Lite vs £16 for a Runcam Nano analog.
I think it is a very personal choice, cost, features etc, sorry no simple answers here!
So here is an update. I have got to the bottom of the problem with the Meteor75 Pro and bad reception in the googles. There are discrepancies between different versions of betaflight as to how the vtx tables are written to file. If the vtx table is written incorrectly by the software vtx powers on but at a very low power of say 1mW, but reports 25mW on screen. Also betaflight misreports the vtx power level from the CLI. In the goggles you can switch power levels with OSD but this actually does nothing. The board I am using is a BETAFPVG473 4in1. I will continue this discussion on the what’s on your bench thread. Once I got the the vtx table formatted in the right way the vtx powers on correctly. Anyway I still would like better goggles but it wasn’t the fault Eachine DV800’s.
