Yer, but, if you donā€™t have USB ports on your tablet or phone itā€™s no different than taking your laptop to the flying field :man_shrugging:

:+1:correct

What phone doesnā€™t have usb port? It not support OTG? Id rather take a cheap old Chromebook for this than my full on laptop. Options anyways always good

Amazed what the web can do these days

Could you not get lightning to usb converters?

I have this major worry that we can have a BLHELI32 issue againā€¦ But hey. Why not?

I donā€™t understand what BF having a web configurator worries you about BLHeli_32 style issues?

BLHeli32 was a close sourced commercial/proprietary software for ESCs, that manufacturers paid a small amount for each ESC. Yes crap they closed shop and didnā€™t open source or give an option for the code. BetaFlight is open source, you can fork and change it tomorrow and make your own oneā€¦ Didnā€™t both BF and iNav branch from Cleanflight in the first place to give two different systems (might be slightly incorrect there, but sure iNav and BF came from the same code base once).

So in short, donā€™t worry about BF going the way of BLHeli32! Plus we have a few Open Source ESC software these days so that shouldnā€™t happen again!

I did take a few shortcuts on that statement, Iā€™ll admit to that!

What a like about web based configurators - they are always up to date
What I donā€™t like - they can be down (server level like BLHELI32 or even just no network on the field where we fly) / they can lead to dropping app based configurators to save costsā€¦

If the later happens, then it becomes a real pain, as we could loose the ability to use old firmwares due to a company closing down.

But you have a point - BF is opensource

Lots of ā€œifā€, but we never know!

Ahhh getting rid of the desktop app I see. Yeah get yaā€¦ Iā€™ve not tried the web based configurator for BF yet (I will)

I assume itā€™ll work offline if youā€™ve loaded it (like Gmail Google docs etc). One more thing to remember to check before leaving house. Yeah with you on web apps great but a downloaded one better in some circumstances!

Yes it is chrome on a pixel. Guess mobile not properly installed yet. Will have to dust off chromebook

Iā€™ll still have my laptop in the car when I go flying :man_shrugging:

They are just moving from desktop to browser application - now easy enough to do with the harmonization of modern browser apis (easier than to manage releases across multiple OSā€™s that have no interest in harmonizing  )

If you load the page in your browser - you will get the latest but also requires network connection. You can however store the whole application (browser page) - and it will work from your local copy (but may no longer be the latest as it was the case with the ā€˜installed desktop appā€™)

Network is not needed for normal operations (connect to drone, config updates,ā€¦) - but for things like flashing where they rely on a server side library still. The BF blackbox analyzer has also been updated in the same way recently.
This will likely speed up their release cycle quite a bit (releasing desktop apps is a major pain in the **** ) which means more dev time to spend on fixing bugs or adding features

Yeah itā€™s quite cool, install it as a ā€œweb appā€, so donā€™t need network connection in the field for settings changes. All good. Have some old chromebooks which Iā€™d rather take in field than my day to day laptops, so this is great!

Well done Betaflight devs, now bring on iNav
