BetaFPV Pavo Femto UPGRADE

Purchased the BetaFPV Pavo Femto at the beginning of 2025, (which is fitted with the DJI O4 Lite VTX), when they were first released, however I was never happy with Jello that always spoiled the footage. The root cause of this Jello was the small silicone grommets on the camera mount.

Recently BetaFPV updated their Pavo Pico to the Pico II, which included a new O4 Lite mounting system.

The Femto shares the same carbon fibre frame with the Pico, so I ordered the new O4 Air Unit Bracket II. It took a few weeks for it to be delivered from BetaFPV.

Once it had been delivered, I stripped the Femto down accordingly, noting where everything was plugged before hand.

Initially I inserted the silicone grommets into the carbon fibre frame first, which was quite difficult to do.

After struggling and ripping one of the grommets, I thought there’s got to be an easier way to do this, so I read the instructions on the BetaFPV website. They weren’t too clear, but I established that the grommets needed to be put into the camera mount first and not the carbon fibre frame.

Than I noted that the new Pico II’s frame had a minor alteration made to it, compared to the original frame, the holes for the grommets now had a small slit in them, so that the new grommets can be inserted without ripping the silicone.

So out came the trusty dremmol tool and small slits were cut into the frame

The Femto was then put back to together and the new O4 Air Unit Bracket II was installed.

Here’s a few photos of the finished upgrade

The weathers $h!t here today in Nottingham, so its not ideal for flying a 2S small drone, however whilst the missus was out, I was able to send it on a small test flight inside the house in Angle Mode and the Jello is no longer there.

Great to know that it works and the jello seems to be gone, nice work!

I went through exactly the same process of discovery a few weeks ago, and intended to add the “slits” myself but have yet to do it. I don’t actually own a Dremel tool, do you think a mini hacksaw would get through it?

It only has to make a very small cut, I’ve just never cut carbon fibre before so no idea if I need specialist kit or not.

A small hacksaw will cut it fine
BUT
Take care not to breathe in the dust, once in lungs it won’t come out or dissipate, It’s there for the rest of your life.

Tips

  • Cut it under water
  • Cut it outside, with a wing blowing away from you
  • Smear it in grease / shaving foam before cutting, the dust will stick in the grease, clean carefully and bin the residue.

just common sense really :+1:t2:

This may be useful…

Very helpful thanks!

Sounds like I finally found a use for those leftover Covid masks

@TheBinman After a period of procrastination that was impressive even for me, I finally made the same mod to my Femto.

I invested in a fairly cheap rotary cutter from Amazon (how many times have I said that after starting this hobby?!) and after donning a Covid mask and ski goggles I headed out to the garden and, er, did the deed.

Worked like a charm :+1:

Now I just need it to stop raining so I can actually fly the thing again. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Well done.

I’m in same position, I only flew it around the bedroom (wife’s office) & top floor landing. I live in a 3 storey property.
