Looks a heck of a lot like a Femto on the face of it, although there was some mention of it being jello free and there seems to be something slightly different about the camera mounting.
BetaFPV site seems to be down right now do you have a summary of the differences to hand?
Nice one @DodgerFPV. It still looks very similar to Femto but from what I could make out:
- Can take O4 Pro or Lite instead of just Lite on Femto
- Extra groms on the VTX cage to reduce Jello
- Different mounting for the camera itself
- New ESC and more powerful motors
- Can take 2S or 3S (Femto is just 2S)
Looks nice! I’m slightly annoyed now that I bought a Femto early on, but I’m going to try and improvise some extra groms on the VTX cage if that is all it takes to shift the jello ![]()
Nice find @DodgerFPV
I wonder if the O4 Air Unit Bracket II, will for the current Femto?
Hope so, they’re promising that it will remove the jello Problems and mine does suffer with it.
Will they be releasing a different O4 camera mount for the Meteor 75 Pro too?
That thought had crossed my mind too. The bracket does look very similar, and it would make sense to make them compatible…here’s hoping ![]()
I guess we’ll find out soon enough, I appear to have one on the way…and somehow a Meteor 75 Pro seems to have slipped into the basket to keep it company ![]()
The frame is 80mm I think so I doubt it as the Femto is 75mm
We all know the new frames came out a while back so it would make sense ![]()
Looking at the detailed drawings, they are the same size.
New version
Old version
So they may just fitIt was a $6 punt so I’m not too worried either way, but @TheBinman has me convinced now
Did you receive the updated part ?
I’ve just received notification from Royal Mail, that they are expecting the package.
Due to arrive tomorrow
It is here! And I have good news and bad news…
The good news is that the cage it the exact same size, so all the holes line up. It threw me to start with as I couldn’t work out where the screws would attach to connect the cage to the frame, but then I found a video that explains that this cage doesn’t use screws at all, the two sides are simply connected by rubber groms:
The groms are a little fiddly to attach to the cage, and the video says that is the hardest bit, but they went in. And everything went swimmingly until the very last step to connect the other end of the groms to the frame. Because the frame on the Pico 2 is very slightly different.
Because the cage on the Femto attaches by screws, there are 4 drilled holes for the screws to go through.
But on the Pico 2, they are slotted, so you can slide the groms into place. The holes on the Femto look like they are the right size once the grom is in place, but getting the ****er through the hole in the first place has so far evaded me. The end of the grom is quite wide, and the hole is small, and I can’t get it through ![]()
Annoyingly the plate on the Pavo 2 looks like it would swap in exactly on the Femto, I just don’t have one. Only $12 from BetaFPV, but would be another 3 weeks waiting to get it. Arse.
@TheBinman it looks like yours is arriving soon, LMK if you work out some magic trick to get the grom through the hole, otherwise I’m either going to have to order the frame or possibly cut my own slot through the existing hole.
Tooth floss ![]()
And give it a jetwash when you finished ![]()
Update: with a combination of tweezers, brute force and sheer rage I did manage to get one of the grooms through the hole.
As predicted it fits nicely when it is in there. But I had to do it without the cage fitted, and once you get past one or two groms it would be impossible to get access to fit the others. Plus if I ever need to remove the cage for maintenance (and we all know that is going to happen right?) it would be a nightmare.
I think the way forward is to cut a thin channel into the existing drill holes and create my own “slotted” fitting. That does risk weakening the frame, but would give me access to fit the groms and remove them easily for maintenance. If I do screw up the frame they are cheap enough to replace.
Or of course I could just write off the $6 I spent on the new camera cage, go back to the old one and live with the jello. Surely it can only be a matter of time before they release an upgraded Femto frame to take the new cage? But I’ve started, so…
I’m going to sleep on it!
