Bit vague I know but how much should I charge for this commercial job?

I have been asked how much an operator would charge for 12hrs hire to cover an event that would predominantly include flying over people, either involved or uninvolved, the price for editing or to sell the images for a media company to edit and use the footage.
Price for hire would include, travelling and hotels plus meals.
Obviously this is a bit beyond my A2CofC and more into the realm’s of GVC but what additional costs are at stake, to set up fly and preparation?
I’m not comfortable with flying around people or gatherings of people but could be an experience to gain from with the right people involved
Any ideas would be very helpful, sorry it’s a bit vague but I’ve been asked to keep a lid on this project

12 hours hire is a lot of batteries.

Also quite a lot of time for something to go wrong when flying over people.

I’ve not taken my a2 cof c yet but wondered are there any regulations for flying for such a long time?

As a minimum I’d suggest you will need a team to help with the flying as well as managing the area you are flying in. It’ll be some serious £££’s

I’d suggest starting the bidding at £1500 a day plus expenses if it was a one man gig.

But as Howard says you’ll need the kit and team to do it.

And once you take on a big job the question you always gotta ask is ‘do I have the skill to pull this shit off’ (and that’s not a dig)

Having read your post on FB and knowing what the event is, and that you shouldn’t be in the air for much more than an hour. I would expect to charge as said £1500 +
plus expenses. Then if you are going to edit as well, depending on your skill set and what the client wants you can start adding another 2k plus on top.

Yes I’m aware even for a maximum of 3 hrs that’s what I can fly before recharging, it’s a lot of concentration and fatigue, even just few hours, it’s too much for one person, more like a two or more job. Spotters, and ground crew to keep things safe, I’m getting feed back from other sources quoting £1000 to 1500.
Two drones one for videos and one for stills, it’s beyond scope of Mini2 as well. My M2P is good for nighttime, but I’m not qualified to fly over people.
It’s become apparent that the event organisers use PRO operators for the event but my contact wants to include a pilot/pilots to record his particular equipment in use, hence a package price on initial layout. Obviously hire his equipment and get a drone operator to record the event/show

As I said , self employed press/tv/promo work the going rate is £1500 (per day) plus expenses.

Try get a decent wedding photographer/videographer for any less (that’ll give you a rough guide)

*edit - runner/labourer/bag carrier £500 a day extra

Are you aware of what it cost’s to sell the footage for, that’s another string to the bow, say example I’ve taken the time to record the event and the media company wants sole use to editing it. Am I within my grounds to retain copyrights

Copyright generally stays with the photographer, however some clients can and will try to have full rights to the work you’ve done.

That’s up to you to negotiate.

Having not dealt with selling my images to the like of media companies, this is a whole new side to just flying for fun, thanks for the info matey

Too many people are willing to give stuff away for free, to see their name in print. That don’t put shoes on the kids feet.

If you’re selling to media outlets , do your home work, see what they charge for advertising space and price match to that.

A donkey on Blackpool beach can earn £500 a day, don’t sell yourself short .
