Bloody weather! ... and flyability

The larger drones do handle stronger wind better than the sub-250g drones.

But ironically, I have had faster speeds (with the wind) out of my Mini 2, than my Mavic 2 and Air 3

Best to head into the wind on the way out, low as possible, then stop, do a 180, climb and let her rip (in Atti mode preferably  ).

Yeah Wednesday PM onwards be okay provided I go North away from the coast (Southampton area maybe). Which ever day it is that looks clear, I plan to try and get out. Anyone else from the @group-southeast planning to fly between Christmas and NYE?

I’d like to get out but where I don’t know, if the wind is still bad I guess I’ll have to gaffer tape the drone to a telescopic pole

Is it worth starting a SE meetup thread then if enough people are interested?

could be good for a speed record… just have to collect the drone a few miles away…

I think I’m retiring from the speed records now, I thought ( but I don’t know for sure ) maybe that’s what condoned to my bearing / motor going on the mavic :grimacing:
So when my record gets knocked off the board I doubt I’ll be trying to regain it, although prior to the bearing failure, I had contemplated on serious wind & try to hit near a 100, I don’t think I’ll be attempting it

Looking good on Boxing Day afternoon on the Isle of Wight

Yeah I noticed that too, but I have to go socialise with family for second Christmas and what not that day

Boxing Day could be a flight window wind down to 7 to 9 Knots from 12.00 to 18.00 in Plymouth, overcast no rain??

Hands up to a SE meeting thread, we all know it’s grim oop norf

The wind has really picked up in the past 24 hours. Managed to get a few Atti runs in :+1:

I’ve not done any coastal flying in the past 2 weeks thanks to the bastard winds… I have however been scoping out some new locations around East London I’ll be hitting in the new year.

How are you all coping flying drone in this bad weather ive not been out 3 weeks cause of bad weather

Hi Shina, I moved your post here, it’s all about the weather and flyability

I’m hoping to fly tomorrow. We have a friend taking part in the Boxing day dip at Redcar at 11am. Hopefully the wind isn’t too bad for the Mavic 3 classic. I’ll be over water for the full flight.

Time to buy a Swellpro :man_shrugging:
