Bloody weather! ... and flyability

I did this year

I remember. I think I got away with it because it was snowing, whereas you were flying on a clear but freezing day.

Foggy isn’t much better. I had my first instance a couple of years ago at Breedon. The ice on the props was quite thick.

Snow prediction for the for three days from 1/12/23 12:00 …

Following 3 days …

It was snowing this afternoon in Greenwich but not enough to settle on the ground, luckily.

I went out with the Mini 4 and got right back indoors, too cold

Planes playing follow-my-leader above the fog … one from Belfast and one from Amsterdam.

A third, from Newcastle, has just joined in.

Update: The Belfast flight has been diverted to Bournemouth.

Update: They’ve managed to land.

I can see @clinkadink removing height limit to take advantage of this for a new speed record!

The winds are too strong at the moment in Plymouth but it would be nice if we had SNOW to sharpen up the recordings, good winds is next Tuesday but snow would be nice! A merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all!!

Yeah, I’m looking at the forecast and I suspect I might be done flying for 2023. It’s a shame, I’ve only gotten to go out about 4 times now and I’m itching for more!

It’s frustrating though, because the forecast says I can’t fly, but then I go out and it feels fine! But I also have to keep reminding myself that it may be fine on the surface - but go up 50m to the clearer air with no obstructions and it probably isn’t!

Ditto your frustration

I went out the other day whilst very windy, although the mavic 3 can cope quite / very well in the wind, problem I had was, is when ever I tried to do a wide angle pano shot ( if the wind started doing its thing ) it canceled the pano where it’s blowing the gimbal :dash: ( doesn’t always happen )
I thought it was a problem with the drone, after doing some research I found out gusts of wind can affect doing panos :grimacing:

Edit : I did manage to get a couple but I kept getting the wind warning to lower drone, had I have been doing just normal shots I think it would have been ok ( as I know with past experience )

What was the windspeed?

I’ve been trying my best to keep within the specs published by DJI (23kts of wind resistance) but I did notice that when I went through the flight data at home, the wind was closer to 30kts of winds in the gusts that day (probably because I was on a hill) and it handled it just fine!

I have heard that some of the larger (>250g) DJIs can handle an awful lot of wind.
Just got to be mindful of a headwind coming home though!

I think in its 30’s I’ll check Airdata see if I can retrieve one sec :+1:

Edit 32.2 gusts if I’m reading it right, which I know the drone is well & more capable of that having had it up in 50-60 + gusts, I just think for the pano shots it can be a no go occasionally.

Oh yeah that’s definitely on the sportier side!

Christmas Eve is starting to get a little spicier.

This continues on Christmas Day, but a lot calmer on Boxing Day.

But it’s not until next Wednesday (27th) when it’s worth launching

Yet not as good as 30km altitude right now :confounded:
