National Trust’s Bodnant Garden in North Wales, is one of Britain’s most celebrated historic gardens, overlooking the beautiful Conwy Valley.
In this video we explore how Bodnant was transformed from a Victorian estate into the remarkable garden we see today. We follow the story of Henry Davis Pochin, the wealthy Victorian chemist who bought Bodnant in 1874, and landscape designer Edward Milner, who helped shape its early development.
We also discover the famous Laburnum Arch, the influence of the McLaren family and Lord Aberconway, the creation of the magnificent Italianate terraces, Bodnant’s important collection of rhododendrons and exotic plants, and the extraordinary story of the Pin Mill.
Along the way there are views of the gardens, terraces, woodland, water features and colourful planting, together with some aerial footage showing Bodnant in its spectacular setting beneath the mountains of North Wales.
