Bosham: a little coastal village in West Sussex in the UK.

This village is close to Chichester and has a large sailing club or two.

Very nice video and subject. I was yearning for you to follow the moving boat right at the start in more detail and zoom into the craft at 2m30s. Beautiful location and nice piloting.

Hi Pomers, thank you for your validation. on that occasion, many sailing boats were static, except for a few motor boats. Next time I go to Bosham I will make a point to check any followable ones and see what i can do. :rowing_man:

I enjoyed that!

Which drone were you using? I notice you got a fair distance from the controller. Could you actually see your drone…?

I’d love to have a go at that with my Mini 2… I doubt there would be much interference out there and with Ocusync it might not lose connection quickly
LOL

I actually live in Bosham and know the places shown in the film. (@Grazuncle) I suspect that these were several films edited together with different TOAL locations. Perhaps @guido can enlighten us?

Nevertheless, a beautiful video, beautifully shot with some excellent piloting.

Hello Photobird,

Nice to read your kind response.
Basically this was one full flight, albeit done 3 times with 3 different filters and batteries.
I have just edited out the manoeuvres which were not cinematic enough.
I join a picture of my approximate waypoints.

TOAL location was the church ground in Bosham - next to the sailing club
Started the journey at the church - took left path and coming back by the right path.
So, I flew between the 2 sailing clubs (Bosham + Itchenor).
Never been in Bosham before but I will definitely come back some day during some sailing event and do more of that.

Fascinating!

Which of your drones was this and how far did you get out from your location, would you estimate

@guido That’s pretty phenomenal VLOS - 2.7km max distance from church. I’m surprised you still had RC contact with the bird at that distance. I lose my M2P at about 1.5km.

If you’re struggling with your drone disappearing from view it sounds like you need to try some Strobon Cree LEDs there @Photobird and @Grazuncle

They’re recommended by 100% of people who have purchased them

I have Firehouse ArcV strobes from the States. But whatever strobes, I suggest that 2.5km is pushing it a bit to be able to see them.

Hence the recommendation for the Strobon Crees

Anyway, back on topic.

(sorry @guido )

Hi Grazuncle,
I have used my DJI Mavic Air 2.
I went 2.3 km between Bosham church and Itchenor sailing club.

Hey PingSpike - I keep this in mind. Currently, I use a couple of Lume Cubes and some other less visible flashing lights. I will check this out.

Agreed Photobird, 2.3 km was a bit beyond VLOS but I was confident that if I crashed my drone it would not harm anyone - but I took the risk to lose my drone in the sea.

Wow!

Thanks.

I’m intrigued now how you got that measurement tool for distance… LOL

Hi Grazuncle, I have used Google Map -

  • point to TOAL position on map and click it.
  • click on right mouse button
  • a context menu pops up
  • click on last option “Measure distance”
  • click on end position to measure.

very useful when planning your flights.

There is also a multi-point measurement tool built in to Drone Scene which may be of use.

I’m surprised you lost sight of it, that’s only 1.4 miles

Strobon Cree lights required

I have no Strobon Cree yet but I use them lights - my MA2 looks like a flying xmas tree.

That is some selection!

I just ordered a Strobon for the underside of my Mini 2… I could print off a holder in PLA but have seen a commercial ones in (ABS plastic?) and would rather use one of those. I just don’t know where to get one from in UK.

ideas?

I have just z-apoxid mine to the rear door
