Buying off ebay

Hi

I currently have a DJI mini SE and recently purchased Neo which I love.

I’m looking at buying either a Mavic Air 2 or Mavic 2 pro.

eBay seem to have quite a few for sale but I’m unsure about buying a drone off there for the obvious reasons that you don’t know what your buying and have to trust the sellers honesty.

I shoot mainly video for my walking Vlogs. The SE is great but sometimes because it uses WiFi the signal is a little sketchy.

I realise both these drone are relatively old but my budget is limited.

What are people’s experiences with buying from eBay and also which of these 2 drones would suit my needs better.

I use Litchi with my SE because I can do waypoint and tracking.

Thank you in advance

Personally I’d have a look in the forsale section on this forum before going to ebay you stand a better chance of buying a drone that hasn’t been mistreated or crashed.

from my own experience buying from here is the safest bet. Ebay gumtree marketplace and the like always come with a huge risk of one the drone has been crashed and tarted up to look new again along with other risks like the previous owner hasn’t un bound the drone from their dji account leaving it a very expensive paper weight.

Bang on the money.

I’ve never had or used Mavic 2 Pro, but I have the air 2. Bought it in here last year for peanuts, if I remember right it was £250 with 3 batteries, filters, original box etc. Immaculate condition too. I love it so much I got rid of the mini 2 as I just wasn’t using it.

I’ve bought off ebay, just do your due diligence … new seller with little feedback forget it… seller with an account that has no feedback for a long time forget it, then look at what they are selling and ask questions like… how far has it been flown, when was it first registered, how many batteries and what is the charge on each… if they cannot be bothered to answer then look elsewhere. look at the photos, ask for some more if you are not happy. Ask them to deregister it from their dji account before you buy it (watch out for the… I’m selling it for a friend or father in law etc who I don’t know anything about it) and if that is the case price or bid or offer accordingly. I like to use offers and I provide an explanation as to why I’ve offered whatever I do, if they don’t take it then reconsider (are you being squeezed or are you undervaluing)… another one will be along shortly… the second hand market is flooded with drones… therefore they are not worth as much as some think (I laugh when I see some of the optimistic pricing for a second hand drone being almost as much as a new one)

Have a look at MPB, they sell used camera gear & drones. Safer than buying from eBay. I bought my M2Pro from them and they have a few in stock now.

Funny you should mention this, I often browse eBay & gumtree just to be nosey & see who’s selling what kinda thing,
Well the other day I see a Mavic 3 on gumtree etc etc with all the photos which seemed genuine & actually spoke to the guy & all seemed legit,
However regarding eBay I was there having a nose at the same items “ Mavic 3 “ low & behold was exactly the same pictures as the listing from gumtree, everything in the pictures identical, carpet background etc, so I thought id click on the sellers credentials & see what’s what, well it stood out like a sore thumb with everything else he had up for sale, nice new shiny drone in his listing & the rest was socks y fronts & bra’s :joy:
Is no joke either he’d obviously nicked mateys pictures from gumtree & had a name with letters that don’t even exist in the alphabet !

Thank you for all of your replies.

Many good suggestions

I never thought of MPB but I know fellow photographers who have bought kit from them and speak highly of their experience, yes it might be a little more expensive but you do get a 6 month warranty for what it’s worth.

I’ve bought loads of used gear from MPB, as have loads of members in here. Nothing to say but good things about them. The kit has always been spot on and better than described. Never had a reason to send anything back to them.

Like many others I’d recommend MPB. I’ve bought camera gear from them with no issues and more recently my drone. You know what you are getting and you get a warranty as well.

I bought a mavic pro a mavic 2 zoom and the dji crystalsky all from ebay all work flawlessly without any issues. The guy i bought the mavic 2 zoom even delivered it to my house and we remain in regular contact.

I bought a Mavic Air, controller, several batteries and a bunch of other accessories at very reasonable prices from three different sellers on eBay, all in very good condition and well looked after, I generally look at the general description first, you can tell if it is an enthusiast selling kit as this is usually reflected in the story behind the sale and level of detail in the listing, if this is missing or looks fake, a greater chance of being stung. Asking questions before bidding also helps sort out the genuine sellers. My experience just in case it helps.

Have you considered CEX (uk.webuy.com)?

I recently bought a used fpv rc2 from them. Quick delivery and reasonable delivery cost.

I bought a Mini3pro from them only to get it home to find out it was bound to an account they had no idea and tried to contact the person who sold it to them who never did get back to them so gave me a refund after i asked them in future to check as it was more than likely to have been stolen
They said they just ask to do a hover check to see if it works unless its been sent to the store pre checked

I have an Air 3 that doesn’t get much use as I have Mavic Cine pro 3 and Mini Pro 4 as well as the flip. Make me an offer!.
It comes with the flymore kit, and a few other bits including a case.

William Saywell

PS I also have a dedicated fast charger that could go with it, as it’s designed specifically for the Air 3.

What a pain. That’s the problem buying second hand I guess, unless you know the seller.

This video looks pretty useful, it covers how to unbind a drone from an account.

Bit of clickbait in the title there, video is aimed at the honest seller

Of they tell you they have, and they haven’t for whatever reason you fucked with a paperweight :frowning:
