CAA Call for Input: Review of UK UAS Regulations

Filling in the survey now. It’s is so generic as to be rendered largely useless
e.g "Do you agree with the challenges with operational requirements identified by stakeholders, and why?"
What challenges? My list may not the same as theirs…
"Should CAA adopt the following policy objectives for operational requirements and why? Mitigate safety and security risks; User-centric; Enforceable;
Growth enabling; Scalable. Please describe any other objectives we should consider: - Mitigate safety and security risks:"
More information needed as to the extent of safety issues are seen as important by the CAA. Obvious ones such as protection of aircraft around airports is an obvious yes, definitely but many others should focus on clarity of guidance rather than trying to think of every factors or a sledgehammer “ban
everything approach just to be sure”

How can I provide meaningful input if I dont know what it is specifically they are wanting me to input on?

Did you not read this document first? :grimacing:

Call for Input Review of UK RPAS Regulation v3_1 (CAP2569).pdf (858.2 KB)

It says:

Stakeholder Feedback

2.4 Stakeholder feedback provided to CAA has identified challenges with the regulatory framework for operational requirements. The key challenges identified by stakeholders are:

etc…

I’d have said about security risks, This is already being tackled by the govt under the new National Security Act, no need for the CAA to bring in any new rule concerning security risks

I did, it’s still not specific enough.

the saddest part about all the effort we as stakeholders ,put into giving our point of view,at the end of the day ,the powers that be will just go ahead and do whatever they want to ,and will say ,well we gave people the chance to put their points over ,and these change’s reflect those replies we received ,i personally have done the review ,but whether or not you do respond ,its a no win situation for the hobby flyer in the open category ,we are at the bottom of the stakeholder pile

Again? They won’t stop until they get the ‘right’ answer:-(

“RPC-B – Basic certification. This may either replace or supplement the
GVC and covers a broader range of content. It requires a minimum of 20
hours practical instruction”

OR more commonly known as money for old rope. The RAE’s will be thrilled at the increased income. Yes it will all be done online at minimal expense from them :man_shrugging:

we are 12 mins in, and Sean is still reading the first few pages!

Guy just loves the sound of his own voice, it’s a totally pointless live broadcast. Just do a short video telling people to look at the document and fill in the survey, and perhaps offer some input for those on what to put that can’t think for themselves.

That live broadcast will no doubt be another 90 minute snooze fest.

Not at all. I’m high as a kite and need to get to sleep tonight as up early. Will provide a great aid!

Its all SEO juice for Mr Dicks (still cracks me up), who’s laughing most :person_shrugging:

Somebody on here mentioned he was verbose… I think he should win the Mr Verbose 2023 award!

I wonder, as the GADC is the most prestigious UAV club in the UK , whether there would be value in a more coherent and measured input from our learned Club Committee Members direct to the CAA. Much the same way as I’m guessing took place when negotiating Article 16 cover in GADC insurance?

the good news he has distilled it down to “CAA drone rule changes in under 5 minutes”

… and the duration is 5:05 :person_facepalming:t3:

@BudgieUK 3 of those minutes Peter would be him asking, no begging, to hit the Like and thanking everyone for the coffee.

Definitely written by CAA. I thought I’d stand a better chance at completing this over coffee this morning. I think I’ll wait until I’ve had a skin full tonight, hopefully alco-translate will kick in.

As I have said so many times … the problem isn’t with regulation, but with the CAA’s inability to provide succint, coherent guidance in plain English.

And this 28 page, 7,743 word document is a prime example of the ‘challenges’ that UK UAS pilots face today.

I spent a while answering every single question in detail.

There’s a definite home-built fpv and tinywhoop slant to my responses of course… something they don’t really understand.

I wonder if anyone will read it… well whatever the case, nobody can say I’ve done nothing.
