Lets not go the way the Private Pilots go…They knock the CAA …usually because they cant do what THEY want to do…:roll_eyes:

To be fair, the recent changes to the regulations have been an absolute clusterfuck.

Though, to be even fairer, the CAA is (mostly) just the messenger there and the blame lies (mostly) at the door of the DfT.

Welcome to life? Huh!!
I dealt with Private Pilots as an AIS Briefing Officer at an International Airport for 22 years…and in Air Traffic Control before that.
Some of them…:roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

Everyone wants to drive at 75 on the motorway

Everyone lies a little on tax returns

Ask any woman her age or weight

Everyone wants to break the rules

What seems to be happening now is the CAA are being pushed to the back by the DfT.

The previous, sensible regs mostly came from the CAA and were usable. Lately the DfT influence has just ended up with more and more unworkable, overly-complicated and restrictive rules clearly written by groups that have no experience what-so-ever in what they’re trying to regulate.

gnirtS, that sounds just like our politicians running the country, coz I’m sure none of them have a clue what they’re doing either :joy::joy::joy:

When I joined the Govt aviation system (late 50s) it was called
Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MTCA) run mostly on the aviation side by ex WW2 RAF types…(aviation was small time and the bucket and spades flights had not been invented yet).
,then it went to
Minsitry of Aviation.
then to the
Board of Trade
then it became the
CAA.
All this in 20 odd years!! No one really wanted to handle aviation as they knew nothing about it!..
…and the only bloke ever to be in charge who knew anything about aviation was
Lord Brabazon of Tara.
. :rofl::rofl::rofl:

So basically it’s now in line with every other government department because some obnoxious MP who has no history whatsoever with the subject matter they are in charge of wants to put their own stamp on it. Rather than one that sounds and looks like anything that may have come from the EU.

But it’s what everyone voted for. So there’s that. :roll_eyes:

Lets face it…what Minister in charge of any Govt Dept has experience of what he/she is supposed to do. Health being a classic as are NHS Trust “Chairpersons”…

The absolute classic was WW2 when aircraft carriers were Captained by a non flying officer and decisions were made by Admirals with no aviation experience whatsoever. Vian (of the Altmark fame) being one (ex destroyer Captain) promoted to commanding the RN carrier fleet in the Pacific!! He was brilliant i/c destroyer - but aviation - no…:roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

Insane isn’t it. I can’t think of any other job where you get paid so much money to be in charge of something you know nothing about.

Tells you a lot about politicians. Imagine if someone that did understand health , transport and education was in charge of those departments. Suppose they wouldn’t last long because they would ask for too much money to actually fund them properly instead of playing the game of making them and their mates rich instead.

Anyway. I digress. Back to how useless the CAA are now.

Not to sure about that, i think they wouldn’t last long as civil servants would be pushed out of jobs because the person in charge would see that the half the civil servants and managers in those departments were surplus to requirements, so the civil servants would push the politician out to protect their own positions.

Another con from Brexit like the ditching the European C labels just so we can be seen to be different from the easa regulations.
