Hi Guys, I have a Holy Stone HS720E, there is no mention of calibrating the gyro in the manual but many people have recommended it in videos and online. I just wondered if anyone has any thoughts or experiences.
Thanks … Rod
my thoughts, If it ain’t broken don’t “fix” it till it is. I’d only calibrate if I was having issues.
Thanks @DeanoG60 That sure makes sense but I am new to flying and just worry if something goes wrong.
I just noticed that when I am typing this reply, I am getting this reply box and all the text is duplicated to the right of it, any idea why and is that correct?
Many thanks … Rod
Yeah, that’s correct, the right hand side is a preview of what your post will look like for when you’re uploading photos, adding links or using formatting code. The box you’re typing in will only show you your code but the box on the right will show you what your code will actually look like when its posted.
Thanks again
No problem
Back to the original question, I take the same approach to firmware updates now as well. I ask myself the question is there any reason (extra functionality) that the firmware will give me? If no then I don’t update… Because again if ain’t broke don’t fix it till it is lol
Continuing the discussion from Calibrating the Gyro Holy Stone:
hi i still have a hs720g and have always calibrated the gyro for each flight
Would agree with @DeanoG60 - try it and see. Take off, hover - if it’s stable you’re good to go. If its toilet bowling - calibrate
Trouble with a lot of updates, it quite often only affects newer models and not the one you got, really true with mobile phone updates and firmware to make it compatible with the latest phone.

I have the E version and there is no mention of it in the manual or other documentation
I am a bit nervous of getting it wrong as I am an inexperienced flyer, but thanks I will certainly take not of all the help I am getting
Hi how did it go, did it need to calibrated for flight
@johnnyboy69 All went well thanks, but I ran into several problems, 1, one of the two batteries only shows 3/4 charged after a full charge. 2, during first flight it just dropped to the ground for no reason that I know of causing bad scratches on the body and damaged props . 3, the manual shows FL prop as A but I believe it to be B and vica-versa with the others so it wouldn’t fly, so I put all the B props on what was A in the manual and all A props what was B in the manual and it worked fine. I now have to contact Holy Stone as it’s new and under warranty, going to fly again tomorrow Hopefully
Hi it may help to have data turned off on our phone, However the return to home seems to work well, even after phone has lost contact with the drone. The hs720e the same gubbins inside as the hs720g
Thanks @johnnyboy69 I never leave mobile data on as I only have a cheap phone package for the Galaxy S10
