Although it’s good to have DJI Care Refresh, what about the expensive equipment, when for example, stolen from the boot of your car! Can anyone recommend a good insurance company to insure my drone, video and stills camera equipment?
I’ve got my stuff attached to my house insurance, if you have house insurance you may all ready be covered ? Worth checking - or you may have to add it & or disclose any item( items ) that maybe over the standard value of what’s included on your home insurance, it’s usualy in the terms & conditions( policy ), if you haven’t got the away from home items cover it’ll be worth a call
Check with home insurance, I have high risk items on list as long as there out of sight and locked, I have 5k in total as occasionally if I’m traveling I know Im covered.
Try and look into Personal Possessions Insurance most do it separately.
Thank you so much for prompt reply, I must confess to forgetting about my Home Insurance, who do cover me for items away from home. I have just added up value of items I take away from home, frightening!! Must ring insurance company to update my policy.
Just looked at my policy and am covered but not for current value, which like you is £5K.
It is all too easy to overlook the cumulative total of all of the kit and caboodle we gather and take out with us, I suspect there are quite a few peeps who’re either underinsured or perhaps just not covered at all
I use Eversure as my home contents insurers were not prepared to cover the value of items that I take out of the home. https://www.eversure.com/camera/
As previously pointed out by others, your house insurance may cover it, or you could add the equipment to that policy. However it will probably only cover the equipment in the UK.
I always took / take out extra camera specific insurance when I take my kit abroad.
Better to be safe than sorry, especially when you have £4-£5k of equipment.
I filled in Eversure’s form last night and today a chap phoned me. All very amicable but I think I will question home insurance before proceeding further.
Totally agree, but I too have fallen into that category. I used to be a freelance press photographer and all my equipment was well insured. Now in old age have become complacent, but that must change.
Hi Chris. My home policy won’t cover the full value of my camera, lenses & drone so I have a separate PhotoGuard policy with Guardcover. Not cheap,
but I do travel to some higher risk locations and it covers theft from vehicles, etc
I use PhotoGuard too - mostly for the PLI cover, but the contents is far better than home insurance.
Beware there are often some anomalies. I’ve always felt safer taking kit into the hotel with me, rather than leaving it in the car, but discovered a couple of years ago that it was covered in the boot of a locked car, but not in a hotel room! Then you go abroad and hire a car and the parcel shelf is (almost inevitably) missing - and it’s no longer covered because it’s visible (privacy glass doesn’t count).
The basic principle is always ‘How can we avoid paying out’ - which is why DJI Refresh is so… refreshing…
Many thanks for your thoughts, I am thinking to get a separate cover from an insurance company as opposed to using my household policy. It’s when you add up the extras carried besides the drone and camera!
I agree about the anomalies, like my car, not covered for parking on the road outside of my house overnight, fortunately I have a drive to keep it on. It’s the small print where they have you every time.
Yea like most insurance companies, they don’t look for ways to pay you out, they look for ways to not pay you out ( most of them ) baskets !
Just make sure you go with someone reputable …
Does the PL insurance on here cover accidental damage to the drone, if not is there somewhere I can get this kind of insurance.
It doesn’t sadly. You will need to either buy dedicated drone insurance or if you have a dji drone, most go for their care refresh cover
I use Coverdrone for my insurance.
Hi there! Before you post, have you selected the most appropriate category for your new topic?
In the UK, can anyone recommend an insurance company who might cover accidental damage and repair of DJI drones.
Everything I’ve read rather suggests Dji themselves… If I can find an independent I’ll be happy.
Thanks
