Posted a couple times but never formally introduced myself.
Cameron (hence Camera-On seemed like a fun play on my name).
Always been in to still photography, but found myself getting a bit bored and lacking motivation to go out with my camera these days so decided to try my hand at videography with a drone finally as I also have a passion for aviation.
This is my first drone (that isn’t a toy) and I have my A2 CoC.
I am from the Fareham / Portsmouth area. My other hobby is sailing so hoping to combine these two together.
Next year I will be doing a long trip circumnavigating the UK so hoping to get some practice in before I start that so hopefully can capture some great footage on my travels!
Looking forward to learning from and hopefully meeting some of you all.
Found the club from drone scene!

Hi Cameron
Hopefully you’ll be able to meet up with a few members along the way too
Ah, but how did you find Drone Scene?

I found it by googling “where to fly my drone UK” I think.
Clearly some effective SEO going on! It might’ve also been linked on the CAA’s own website.
I think GADC also came up while I was researching who to do my A2 with along with some other regulatory stuff. Figured the club responsible for possibly the best resource on FRZs etc was worth being a member of.
There is indeed
Agreed
Would you mind if we used that quote?
Hello Cameron, welcome to Grey Arrows, I think you are going to enjoy it as much as the rest of us crazy drone pilots
And I hope I do get to meet some other members on my travels, although I’ll be traveling by sea so limites to wherever is walking distance from whatever marina I’ll be in that day!
Hi Cameron @Camera-On and welcome to GADC

Hi Cameron,
A couple of things to think about when sailing and flying a drone.
From my own experience drones and seawater don’t mix too well
Learn to hand catch your drone. Easy enough on land where you are static, I;ve not tried it when in a moving boat.
RTH will not be your take-off point. Even if anchored the boat you are on may swing. You can set a dynamic RTH to get the drone close to where tou are but I wouldn’t rely on it fully …
There is good sailing and good flying around Hayling; if you are in the vicinity drop me a DM
Hand launching is equally important … see this (very basic) simulation of a bobbing boat, and how they can self launch. Taking off from a boat - #19 by OzoneVibe
Indeed the whole thread relates to the issues.
I watched a few videos about it before buying to make sure it’s possible.
Bottom line is… It’s not advised. But flying from a boat is a big portion of the reason I justified getting the drone so I’m willing to take the risk.
Also I got the DJI refresh thing. On face value it doesn’t seem great value, but it should take the sting out at least especially if the drone doesn’t sink!
Also it should help that I will be mostly on an 80ft boat with a fairly open deck so should have the space at least.
I will be working on perfecting the recovery before I attempt it over water though!
