Can I Fly from My Back Garden?

So my back garden backs onto allotments seldom occupied at this time of year. Beyond the allotments is a disused railway track from the coal mining era and then fields.

My question is quite simple - can I fly my Mavic 2 Pro from my garden into this area? I have the required registration and passed a UAV examination.

Many thanks

John

You’ll find your answer here:

Be sure to check the airspace regulations for where you’re flying too. You might be living next to Gatwick for all we know

Thank you so much, that’s such good news and so easy to get an answer

I’d hazard a guess unless you live in a detached house with a massive garden all round the answer is probably a no with the M2P ;o(

Walk to the fields and probably no issues ;o)

Yes, you’re correct - at the point of take off I wouldn’t be 150m from neighbours that would only be achieved after flying out so taking off from the railway track is my option to be completely within the rules.

Dont the railway people have a thing about operating near them??

You know, if my biggest crime in life was to fly a drone over a disused railway line … we need to bring some proportion back into our daily lives or risk becoming clones of the ‘white that white’ brigade. I could live with the stigma.

I could always employ a Chinese Solicitor to defend me

Can I fly my DJI mini 3 pro from my garden.
I can see some nice sunsets developing from bedroom window as it’s higher up.
So when the sunset is at its best can I fly from my back garden straight up to 100m take my photos and drop straight back down to my garden literally where I am standing when the drone took off.

As Long as you Are Not in A Restricted Zone then you are Free To Fly From Your Garden, I Have Done it Lots from my garden At Sunset and it is Amazing

Have a look at DroneScene to see if you are in a Flight Restriction Zone, if not you should be fine.

You can also use Good 2 Go to try different flight scenarios. You’ll quickly see the benefits of having a drone less than 250g in weight.

Thanks for info I have check the safety precautions from my garden, no restrictions apply for flying so looking forward to next sunset

Looking forward to seeing your sunset!

Just don’t have any recordings or pictures of taking off and flying back from garden in built up area on the drone or on a smart controller, so if get reported by a neighbour you can be comfortable saying your allowed and do not record or take pictures :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

conversation ended door shut and then get the laptop out and view your beautiful sunbathing topless neighbours  if I would do it myself :sunglasses::kissing_smiling_eyes:
